Suggested carry handgun options for a lefty

I'm a lefty, so I have limited choices in handguns (carry or not) because of the operability of the safety mechanism(s) on many weapons. I have a couple Sigs so a natural choice for me to carry is the P239, but I'd like some other options.

The only 'safety' on my DA/SA Sigs is a decocker which is on the left side of the weapon that I can easily operate with my index finger. I was looking at an M&P Shield but the location of the non-ambi safety convinced me that wasn't a good option.

Preferred round is probably .40 or 9. Looking for something smaller/lighter than a P239. Suggestions?

I'm a lefty and I carry a S&W M&P 40C, no manual safety. I also have a 1911 on my permit but it has an ambidextrous safety.

I'm a lefty too and just adapted. I prefer my carry guns without manual safeties but carried in a good holster.

I had a Sig P220 on my license and switched to a Glock 30sf. Lighter and simpler to use. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy my Sigs at the range.

Since you want smaller, P239 are nice, especially since you are familiar with the Sig platform.

Alternatives but no manual safeties: Kahr PM9, CM9 or Glock 26/27.

I'm a lefty and I carry a G19 gen 4. I also have an HK p2000sk on my permit, but I usually carry the Glock. Both are lefty friendly.

As a lefty, I carry two Heckler & Koch auto loaders--the well known (but now very pricy) H&K P7M8 and now a P30. I carried the P7M8 extensively in another very tight CCW state--Massachusetts. I carried it in a Bianchi holster on my belt, under a jacket. (Trust me, Kalifornia is must less stringent than Massachusetts when it comes to CCW permits. You can't even possess a firearm in that state without a permit in the first place, much less to carry concealed.).

H&Ks, albeit pricy firearms, generally are designed with ambidextrous controls in mind from the start. If you do find an H&K at your LGS, be sure that you have your check book with you.

As a lefty I carry a Ruger SR9C with a Crossbred IWB. MAnual safety on both sides, it works great for a lefty. Or you want you can get the SR40C.

Lefty here. Primary carry gun is a Springfield EMP. Miniature 1911 in 9mm. They also have it available in .40, but I prefer the higher capacity of the 9mm and ease of shooting the smaller pistol in the lower caliber. Carried in a Crossbreed Supertuck it barely even feels like it is there unless I am driving.

This is how I do it. Safety is off though.

We will see if I still like it in the summertime with lighter clothing.

I keep my safety on, when I trained with my SR9C I trained myself to hit the safety as I was pulling it out of the holster. It is a natural path for my thump to slide down and over the safety as I am griping. Takes no extra time.

Any gun equipped with a safety should have the safety on while in a holster. It takes absolutely zero time to take the safety off as part of your draw process and you should practice your draw enough that it becomes ingrained and automatic even when under stress.

I suggest an HK USP compact in 9mm. I have one in .45 and bought the part to make it a V2 (safety/control lever on right side of frame). HK's tend to be lefty-friendly.

Im a lefty and I just learned to snap the safety while pulling out of holster with index finger. Sure having lefty hardware would be nice but theres no replacement for training

Ambidextrous safety on the Beretta PX4 Storm, both the 9mm and the .40

I carry a Kahr cw9 and a XD .40. Neither has a safety to get in the way. I also have a Px4 9mm on my permit, ambidextrous safety.
