    CCW Questions

So I just bought myself a S&W 642 for CCW, I have a few questions.

    1. If I do get my CCW, how does being in a car work? Is it just like transporting a gun while going to the range (it needs to be in trunk or locked in a completely enclosed case?) or can you keep it on you?

    2. How much in the end will it end up costing? I was told around $500? (I'm in Placer County if that matters)

    3. I was told placer county makes you pay, THEN tells you if you got your CCW or if you didn't, is this true?

    4. Lastly, I was told my age can affect me getting my CCW, I'm 22 but have been shooting guns for nearly 10 years. Is this true?

I have also never been arrested, had a felony, or even pulled over by a cop (no tickets), If that matters.

I have my CCW for sac so let me tackle some of these questions for you

    1. Being in a car.. if you are asking how does it work if you are driving the answer is its can be on you, in the glove box, whatever you want. If you are asking what happens when you have to leave your weapon in the car, most people have some sort of a lock box. I have one that uses a key and while i am at work i leave my gun inside the locked box. It has a cable that runs under the seat.

    2. $500 + or - is probably pretty close. Live scan is about $120, the class usually for placer is anywhere from $80 on up. The cost from the actual department is like $25 for the initial appointment and $80 for the issuance. Mine was a bit more because i was in sac and had my florida permit taken care of at the same time.

    3. Someone else will have to chime in, not sure.

    4. The fact you have been shooting for 10 years will not matter. Your age may come into play if you have anything recently in your record. If you have a clean record, no convictions, nothing crazy on your driving record, no DUI, you shouldn't have too much of an issue. They are really looking for individuals that are trustworthy and can handle the responsibility of carrying a firearm.
