Which County Would I Apply for CCW In?

Situation is that my Driver's License address is in Orange County because that is where I grew up. I moved to San Diego about 8 years ago for school and stayed there since. I left my DL's address the same (my mother's home) as I move every couple of years and it was easier to have a consistent mailing address.

Would it make more sense to apply for CCW in Orange County or in San Diego?

    Thanks.

County where you reside. You will need to show proof of residence (mortgage, utility bill, etc.).

^^ and more than likely your IA will require your driver's license to match your resident address

Well, it may make more sense to you, but you have to apply first in the city that has a PD, and if no issue/no cause, then apply with county.

I guess I will apply in San Diego. I will have to get another Driver's License, but unfortunately my lease is up in a couple of months. So my address will change again because I will be moving again! SD hasn't seem to accept the Peruta decision yet like OC so I have the time to wait.

          Thanks guys!

if your DL does not match your residence currently, you will need the brown card issued from DMV. just went thru this yesterday. Man, I love the DMV..

I would make an appointment now unless you plan to move out of SD by the end of the year.

Appointment are now backed up into July. I would also go get an updated drivers license.

You have to apply where you reside and provide proof of residency. No other options.

If you're planning on moving soon and not staying in SD, you'll have to start the process all over again.

However, that raises a question for me. Most IAs are at the county level and moving to a different county requires you to apply for a new LTC there. But some cities also have their own IA. If you get your LTC at the city and move down the block which happens to be within the next city's limits but still in the same county, do you also have to reapply for a new LTC??

Once you move your license is only valid for 90 additional days. Since an IA has 90 days to respond to an initial application I suppose there was some thought put into this so you could move and get a new license without a lapse in time.

Edit: Should have read your question more carefully. An IA cannot revoke your license if you move to a new residence within their jurisdiction, in fact the PC says they must issue you a new license with your new address.

The 90 day timer in my original post only applies when you move out of the county, or IA's jurisdiction.

Yes. License from city A, move to new city B, old city A LTC expires in 90 days.
