    Would like my LTC

Hello guys, I'm an elementary school teacher, is that pretty much an automatic "deny" if I try to apply? I live in Riverside County. Thanks in advance.

Just because you're a teacher doesn't mean you will be denied. Good luck getting your employer to allow it on campus, though. Issuance rates vary dramatically from county to county. I have no clue how often Riverside County accepts applicants. I'm sure someone will be along to let you know if it's worth applying or not.

An elementary teacher isn't an automatic no-go. You can claim a lot of parents are pissed about the implementation of Common Core, so you feel your well-being is at risk to/from work.

RivCo is a pretty forgiving country to obtain your LTC. The deputies are very helpful and want you to get your permit. You gotta give them SOMETHING to work with though.

I am fairly confident that being a teacher is in no way any type of disqualifier in our County. The only potential problem I see is if your GC is based around your employment.

In other words, being a teacher isn't a minus, but I wouldn't try to use it as a reason why I should be given a permit either.

Trying to understand why being an elementary school teacher would affect the equation one way or another...as long as you don't participate in heated arguments at staff meetings about tether ball rules.;-)

But I thought all California teachers were liberals and against guns. At least that is what I have always been told by the Calgun nation.

I dunno. Depends on who you listen to. I've also heard that all liberals are anti-2A. You can hear all kinds of crazy stuff on the Internet.

Well maybe not all, but their union sure does support some anti-gun politicians.

Thanks for all the replies. I just need to come up with my GC. I think teachers should be able to carry

I'm a teacher. I gave my CCW. Of course, I live in Sutter.

Your job likely doesn't make you any less acceptable, but it doesn't do you any favors.

You will never get permission to carry on campus. I would also not recommend that you do so. Your odds of needing your CCW are significantly lower than your odds of a kid noticing and you losing your job over it.

Remember that you can legally carry on campus, but you can also be fired. They just can't press any kind of charges against you or take your gun. Being jobless, though, would really suck.

                        Hope that helps.

As to Common Core, I like it... At least I like the new standards. I have no idea what the tests will look like. That worries me. As far as I can see, at least for English, the new standards promote critical thinking, evidentiary support, and research.

You can be fired if your district has board policies that are communicated via annual employee notifications that prohibit it. If not, you can't. Either way, I agree with your risk/benefit analysis.

What he said. Just assume that you can't.
