It really doesn't matter what any of us think. We aren't issuing CCW's. It sounds like you're on the right track. Apply, be honest, see what happens.

If you're not a prohibited person, your issues are non-DV misdemeanor(s) or something less-than-or-equal-to a WIC 5150 at least five years ago...right?

1) Was it the same issue twice, or were they completely different? If the former, good luck...if the latter, treat them independently.

2) Be plain and up front about the issues having happened, and offer no excuses for them or their surrounding circumstances. Focus on what you did as a result of the issues to ensure changes took place in your life, as well as evidence that the changes have taken root.

3) Time is a factor - if they were long ago, that helps - it shows the changes you've made may actually have taken root as described above.

3) Your wife vouching for you means almost nothing in this setting.

Is it any sort of domestic violence. You seem to be dancing around the fact that there were serious relationship issues in your past. I think it would be an uphill climb, especially with some form ongoing drama that the sheriff can verify.

You definitely want to tell them everything.

I had some issues when I was younger. I put it all in a separate letter and gathered as much old paperwork as possible. I even pulled copies from the courts.

Also make sure your issues don't fall under any of the listed exclusions. Worst case, you wasted your time during the interview.

I almost stopped because I was worried about my past. The ccw team is very helpful and will most likely tell you right up front if its an issue.

On the plus side, my wife has her appointment immediately after mine, and can totally vouch for me regarding one of the two issues.

I wouldn't count on this making much of a difference. I had to provide written letters and references during my process. We were not to use family for either. I assume they're worried about a bias.

First where are you?

You did not indicate which county you are in, that is going to be the biggest factor right there because 60 percent of us reside in effective NO ISSUE counties for average folks.

I am assuming that you are not prohibited to start with and who is disqualified by statue is in the paperwork.

What a sheriff is going to look for are behavior patterns, for example, how is your driving record. Do you have things like "racing", DUI's, wet reckless or way too many moving violations.

Have you any arrests and were those arrests for anything involving violence.
Arrests do matter regardless if there was NO CONVICTIONS.

Juvenile records are not "sealed" for police. Having the records won't necessarily disqualify you, but trying to hide that you have had them will.

If you have had any "gun related" issues such as carrying without a license, that could present problems.

If you have had mental health issues such as "depression" and especially if you are or have taken psych meds, that could be an issue.

DV Arrests with no convictions are likley to raise eyebrows.....However I know three idividuals with this in there past more than 5 years ago and these folks were recently issued.

So go for it! ....be frank and honest its all you can do and that goes along way with interviewers.

Also, very intersting is it was three different counties.
