The other day I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about states passing laws prohibiting employers from banning guns in the parking lot.
The article said that there 325 gun-related workplace deaths in the last year.
This was followed by discussions about workplace violence and the various policies that are intended to either address it or at least absolve the employer of responsibility.
While I like the WSJ, I have never read any article in any newspaper that gives good, detailed data.
My question to the CGN community is this:
Where would I find good data, so that I could extract answers to the following questions:
1) Of workplace violence incidents, what percentage are perpetrated by valid CCW holders?
2) Of all CCW-involved shootings, how many result in criminal charges against the holder? How many stick?
3) Of "Illegal Weapon" incidents, what percentage involve CCW holders?
There is a lot of FUD out there, but I am a "data" guy and I like it when people can back up their claims.
I'm willing to bet that inconsistent and incomplete reporting across jurisdictions prevents this data from being compiled in a meaningful way. And all players just want to grind their own ax, so I've seen no serious effort put into being rigorous. I wonder if there is someone who would fund a truly scientific study?
