It is a shall issue county, but there is a backlog at the moment. If you are lucky enough to get it, it is a state wide license not county specific.

Not sure about adding optics. Most CCW I see are just the gun as the users are trying to keep the profile of the weapon to a minimum, but I don't live in a shall issue county, so what do I know.

    Good luck
I support the NRA, if you are not in, you can't win.

Shall issue?..No, The Shariff is not required to give you a CCW. But a Sac CCW is easy to get you just need to get an appointment, that's the hard part.

Yes, you can with LTC. It's a state license; sheriffs and chiefs of police are designated to issue them for the state.

BTW, your location shows as "Roseville". If you actually live there, that's Placer County, and that's where you must apply.

Anyways, I will use the search function but the only reason I would get a handgun if CCW was available, I'm interested in 9mm and would probably get a Springfield XD (after being able to shoot it i loved it)

What are some recommended optical attachments for it? Laser or LED light? I prefer a LED light and do they sell ones with different modes such as rapid flickering? A security guard used a LED light with a flickering mode on it and it was definitely a deterrent, i wasnt even able to look straight at him and was backing up (was a friend haha)

other than that, i dont see any other issue than to go forward with the handgun purchase! i do commute to the SF Bay Area from time to time, im not sure if i can only CCW in my county
Personal preference, I typically carry a surefire LED light when I carry. Although a weapons light would be nice, it does add bulk to the gun and sometimes I need the light, without needing the gun.

And as for the strobes etc... I prefer a gun light to be a simple on off kinda deal. I understand the appeal of the strobes etc, but If my gun is drawn, its only because the situation has reached a point where I would rather have a constant light to determine if I need to shoot or not. The strobe effect can disorient yourself just as much as the person you are shining it at.

Sac County is pretty much shall issue as long as you are not prohibited from obtaining LTC. 2012 is fully booked for new applications, but you can keep checking the website for cancellations. I have heard Mondays are the best days to see posted cancelled appointments. Just be on at the right time to get an appointment. You can look on the Sacramento County Individual updates thread for individual timelines and updates.

So far I've had 40 or so of my friends aqcuire their CCW's in Sac county last year and this year. My Dad just completed his Live Scan and is waiting for his second interview appointment. He signed up last June for his first interview this June, so there is and has been a backlog. A few have been able to find cancelations and were able to get their interview within a few months. You have to check the Sac County Sheriff website daily.

After your first interview it'll still be a few months for Live Scan appointment and your 2nd interview, but I heard these days it's pretty easy.

If you live in Placer county it's always been a pretty pro-CCW county. I've had my Sac County CCW for a little over 10 years and moved to Placer county a few months ago. My permit is good for 90 days after I moved.

My Placer interview was much easier than my Sac one 10 years ago. The nice thing is the Sheriff told his interviewers that he wants to issue the applicants CCW's. His standing order is to help the citizens fill out the reasons for needing a permit. I interviewed and within a week I was approved for my live scan.

Let me know, if you have any questions because I've been pretty involved in helping some of my friends acquire their CCW's who live in Sac, Placer, El Dorado, and Yolo counties.

Expect to put out about $500 between the class, live scan, and processing.

Personally, I wouldn't attach a light to my carry gun. Reason being, if you have drawn your weapon, you have already made the decision to shoot the BG. You won't have time to fiddle with a light before shooting in a high stress scenario. Is a flashlight a good tool? Sure, I carry one everyday. Just not on my carry gun. IMO it's just a waste of space and extra weight. I do have one on my HD sidearm though, but my sidearm is my backup to my real HD weapon, my shotgun. Everyone is different though, so get one if you really think it will help you in a real shoot scenario.

                  ^^^Well said.

Also to add, holster selections for guns with lights are kind of limited in select/traditional styles.

I EDC a Surefire E1B Backup LED flashlight. Dual stage mode and a nice clip that permits bezel up or down to clip on belt or pockets.

                      Yes.

Sheriff Livingston is not a big fan. We've (myself, CGF people) spoken to him about his non-compliant policies, and at one time there seemed to be some willingness to fix those, but no recent news; and meeting the requirements of PC does not require issuing any more LTC than today.

When that changes, you can be sure that while I may not be the first in line, I'll be giving detailed status reports on my app!
