First Time Carry

So i got my permit in hand on Thursday... Carried thursday night when I went fishing and again yesterday out on the boat and around town...

It is a bit different to say the least... need to get used to just leaving it alone, not checking to make sure it is loose etc.

Also I need to be more confident in the clothing I wear and remember that no one is looking for a gun and I can see it because i know for a fact it is there.

Any other advice for making this an easier process mentally?

Yeah I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm carrying an LC9 so it's pretty easy to conceal. If I'm going out and plan to have a beer...I leave it home.

Need to plan better with clothes for sure. I feel ya..

I choose to always carry, even when I work from home or on weekends or whatever. My carry gun is either in a holster on my body, on my nightstand when sleeping or in arms reach by the shower. Why is this not overkill?

1. I have kids. I need to know that my sidearm is never going to be touched by them unless I am present to supervise.

2. A gun locked in a safe/box whatever in another room is useless when I need it RIGHT NOW. Home invasions are not going to let me call time out while I get ready to fight. If I knew an attack was coming I would not be there, it's the same for my house as it is for the street.

As you spend more time with your gun on your person you will get more comfortable with it. Give it a few weeks and you will feel half dressed when it's not there.

Excellent advice. I do the same thing and have grown to resent the few times I can't carry.

A tool is only useful if you have it with you.

i do the same, try pistol wear.com they have some pretty cool holsters.

Chief, the above posts are all valid. If you're not carrying all the time, you might want to start. Just carrying around the house will help you. I'm not sure if it's you or your 916 buddy with the Crossbreed, but it needs breaking in. For me driving with IWB felt strange and now I don't even think abou it. I'm guessing you already have double checked your clothes to make sure your piece isn't printing. Most people who don't know what to look for won't notice. I did see some guy in Old Sac a couple of weeks ago who was wearing a t-shirt that got hung up between his gun and his body. It was pretty obvious if you pay attention to that stuff. Also, you'll find ways to check or adjust your piece without being obvious.

thanks for the advice guys.... It was my buddy who had the crossbreed but he didn't like it i guess, and he also changed his carry firearm so he doesn't use it.

Im getting more comfortable. but it is taking time

My issue is that I am 6ft and not much of my current wardrobe is long enough to cover my waist. It's only my XL-Tall polo's from Gap that I feel confident in now. And only half of my t-shirts are long enough.

One day, you'll be sitting in the car and you'll be able to feel your holster but you'll worry that you didn't put your gun into it and you'll find the hammer right where it's supposed to be. It gets to the level of forgetting to put on underwear - aka doesn't happen.

When buying clothes you will consider their efficacy for carry.
