Started going to the gym. California. Locked locker, my lock. No signs anywhere, one way or the other. I looked in the sticky at the top of this forum. I understand "concealed is concealed". Opinions on just keeping it low key and locking everything in a locker at the gym? On a motorcycle, so no DOJ approved lock box available. I recognize there are opinions, and not legal advice. Just wondering....Thanks!

What to do with your EDC at the gym?

I wouldn't do it. It's way too easy to bust into gym locker.
No car with a lock box (which I still absolutely hate to do)? I'd leave it at home, but that's just me.
But I'm not working out in South Central or Compton either so....

Thanks for the opinion on this. I hate to continually limit when and where I carry. A car with a lock box, is legal, (If DOJ box) and (IMO) safe. Kind of difficult with a motorcycle! I am not in a bad area either, but you never know about crime. It is unpredictable when and where it happens! My question is...what makes MY locker worth breaking into? The gym does not have locker break-in's, (I asked the Mgr.). I do not rock a Rolex or bling. I am unsure about IA laws regarding this. More thoughts anyone?Comment

Do NOT leave it in a gym locker. They get broken into all the time. Leave anything of value in your car...which is not ideal but it's better than a gym locker. Or get yourself a fanny pack and wear it while you're working out. It's one of the few applications that fanny packs really excel at."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

I would suggest keeping it on you or with you in a discreet manner. I strongly suggest not leaving it in the gym locker or your car at the gym. Again gym lockers get broken into or combos get stolen, but vehicles at gyms also get targeted heavily because ya a lot of gym folks leave all their crap in their vehicle. Either leave it at home or keep it with you.
To answer your question about being a target, it likely wouldn’t be about your gun, unless you swing it around openly of course, but any wallet they can get to they will try. You can do it 100 times, just takes that one time you have crooks in the locker room with you who see your combo and then discover your gun while stealing your wallet.Last edited by SigSauerP226; 05-24-2025, 12:12 AM.Comment

I'm sorry but the entire concept of leaving a gun unattended in either a vehicle or a gym locker is foolish. I don't care how it's "secured". Over 22 years I've taken countless vehicle burglary reports, and it's gotten far worse since I retired and prop 47 came to be. Leave it at home even if it requires a second trip. I'd rather be 100% positive it's secure as I can make it at home locked up, than to have in the back of my mind, what if.
As far as the gym never having lockers broken into, well they want your money, do you think they will tell you "yeah it happens", or "we've never had an issue"?👍 1Comment

Thanks for the input gents! AT SOME POINT you have to leave it unattended, in a safe at home, or don't carry a lot of the time? A DOJ (LOL!) safe in the car out of sight attached to something solid seems reasonable. (but still...) parking lots are not safe for cars or people, so getting back prepared ASAP seems to be a good call too IMO. I think a key lock works better than a combo for the gym, but I think I will take your advice and avoid a chance of issues. I think Prop 36 passed in Nov. essentially rolling back Prop 47, which was a joke. Not that anything really changed. As far as break ins at the gym, I asked and was told that LE is a large part of the membership and keeps an eye out in the locker area too. Who know what that really means! Thanks again-Comment
