Last time (2 years ago) I filed right on the 45 day mark and was approved rather quickly. This time around, filed right on the 45 day mark and only have a few days left till it expires. A bit surprised, as they were all over it last time. SDSD. Fingers crossed there are no "speed bumps" this time. Probably backed up.

Waiting on renewal. Hmmm.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but right now the Sheriff is reporting a 60 day lead-time on renewals. It's on their website. So you should probably prepare yourself for a gap-out.
The lesson here is that at 5-6 months prior to expiration, one should start checking the website monthly so you can plan accordingly.
Also, the Sheriff's office needs to get their shhh...err...crap together. With more and more permits being issued, the renewal population is only going to continue to grow...especially as we have to go through this crap every two years...currently. The renewal process, however, should take 48 hours, not 60 days. Imagine if it took you two months to renew your driver license with a gap-out because of their backlog. But nothing will change on this until there is a lawsuit. Unfortunately.
Good luck...and may the odds be ever in your favor!"Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Thanks, I did look ahead and try and prepare many months in advance. Plugged reminders in my phone. I applied the morning of 45 days, with all my documents in place. Did the renewal class a week ahead. It is strange how last go round was super fast, and now super slow. I would guess a call/e-mail/stop by the office would not help my cause? Hopefully a 15 day gap out will be all. I would have thought with all the lawsuits flying around about LA delays, they would have been as fast as last time. Ironically, I have to renew my drivers License too in a couple of months. Hopefully no gap out there!
What a world...thanks again!
Update-after much digging, I found this on the SDSD site. "Individuals with valid CCW permits can apply for a renewal 60 days before their CCW expires. It takes approximately eight weeks to process a renewal once a completed submission is received."
I would have sworn I looked up the limit on applying at 45 days, not 60! Weird, don't know how that happened. I was ready to go, bad intel cost me!Last edited by Rumblemonkey; 04-14-2025, 11:52 AM.Comment

Hello, and thanks for the information! I thought I was losing it! I did, however, get approved yesterday, on the exp. date. So there will be a (weird) gap, depending on the mail. They required FULL documents for validating residence. Some I had were too big to scan without cutting off a bottom section, which I thought was inconsequential. I was wrong. Save yourselves a potential delay and send FULL documents. I am pretty cautious about giving up information, but you can't redact any information on these. I guess I can go ahead and carry knowing the license is on it's way, right? What could go wrong! (NOT!) LOL!Comment

My CCW expires in June so I went to the LAPD CCW site a few weeks ago and found out they're advising starting the renewal process 90 days ahead. I submitted my info via the portal and received an email less than 30 minutes later asking me to call for an in-person appointment. I completed the interview (including the wait time, took about 20 minutes total) and my class is scheduled for Sunday. I should still get my renewal prior to expiration (fingers crossed).Too many rifles, not enough time...Comment

Yeah, mine timed out for 9 days due to the backlog, and going from 45 to 60 days. Last renewal was streamlined in comparison!Comment
