Please Help — CCW Fingerprints “stuck” at DOJ

IMG_5208.jpgI am in Los Angeles County.
I waited the almost 2-year application period.
I completed the CCW course and proficiency.
2 of my 3 DOJ fingerprint checks came back almost immediately. (CA and FBI)
*The third one (Firearms) appears stuck. It’s been 17 weeks!

The LAPD is no help. The officer I’ve been dealing with has not offered any solution, just “there’s nothing I can do.”

The DOJ doesn’t answer any questions. I get the same canned automated response.

At this point, the only conclusion I can come up with is this “delay” is an error on the part of the DOJ. There is absolutely no way this portion is giving them a delay. Whoever at the DOJ is handling this specifically must have done something wrong (didn’t hit a button, flip a switch, or push this forward.)

For a solution, I offered to re-do that portion the fingerprints at my expense. The office said he didn’t think that would help.

(In this time period, ’ve even bought a new gun, and passed the same DOJ background check in less than 7 days.)

I feel I will be waiting forever for the DOJ to fix an issue that they don’t even know is an issue.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately this is a part of the process and not an anomaly. I've seen this portion of the background check take a month or longer. You'll have to ride it out.

A month is one thing, but we are in the FIFTH month. Have you ever heard of it taking this long?

I saw case with 3 months long, but guy has had couple bad issues in the young age. Finally got approved and this happened about year ago.

Now in the 7th month since all other fingerprints have come back. I don't feel I am being impatient. This feels like a situation where an error has been made and my application is just sitting in purgatory... and nobody knows it's even in purgatory.

Does anyone have a direct way to contact someone in the DOJ/Livescan Firearms Department??

Well, I read through the entire thread and was left in suspense. Any luck since April.. Seems pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Just a heads up, that I had the exact thing happen to me for my CCW renewal this year. My local PD CCW administrator suggested that there was likely "something technically wrong" with the Live Scan prints that had been submitted several months ago which likely caused the "firearms" status of the Live Scan to indicate "in progress" indefinitely. The CA DOJ does not provide applicants with any updates, and they only provide the local PD inquiries with a canned answer that it's in progress. My local PD CCW administrator stated that it would be best to have a new Live Scan submitted (with a new ATI number) at my expense (ouch). In my case, the new Live Scan was processed and approved in days, not weeks or months. Make sure to rub hand lotion thoroughly into your finger tips before the Live Scan. The local PD CCW administrator said that this will help ensure that the prints are more legible for processing.
