Adding a gun on permit question

It's my understanding that all firearms on your CCW permit have to be recorded by the DOJ. That being said, I have a question around caliber... I have a 1911 in 45. Was planning on sending it out to a gunsmith, and having a new top end put on it and chanbered in 9mm. Anybody know if I will run into an issue since the gun was recorded as a 45? Or is all they care about the serial number? IE my Kimber Pro Carry II 45ACP is now a Kimber frame with a 9mm barrel....

Any how does this work for a spouse? If she wants to carry one of my handguns, do I have to transfer it to her before she can put it on her permit?

I can answer the second question about the spouse. "Yes", under SB 2 it has to be in her name. You can do an intra-familial transfer on CFARS for $19. She also needs to have an FSC card.

Unless something has changed I believe an intra-family transfer can't go laterally, like spouse to spouse. The transfer can only go up or down, like father to son or grandson to grandpa. I could be wrong but that's how it was when my son transferred a gun to me.

I believe in San Diego no FSC is required if you have a CCW permit.

Spouse to spouse works. An FSC card is required for the form whether or not you have a CCW.

          Here is the form: https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/media/bof-4544a.pdf

This is not accurate. If someone has an FSC exemption, like a CCW in the FSC box enter 999999. In the comment section put the exemption and the exemption code. Will also need to upload supporting documents for the exemption. I just had to do this with a Colt that was my father's that I found when going through some of his tool boxes that I had put in storage years ago. DOJ processed it in less than three weeks, so maybe they are getting their act together a bit, doubt though.

Also use the OPLAW form on CFARS. The paper version does both intra-familial and transmutation of property between spouses. Online it's two different forms.

The caliber change depends on your issuing agency. In my county, I tried to register my Glock 33 as a .357/9mm and they said it's only in the DOJ system as a .357 and I can only have it on my permit as such. If I wanted to submit to the DOJ and have them change it, they could, but I'd have to list it on my permit as two separate guns. Best to call your agency and ask them what their policy is.

The caliber difference will be dependent on your IA. At LASD, if there is any mismatch in the gun info, they will not allow it to go on the permit.

I assume this is standard everywhere but In socal oc, they run a check on your handgun so it will show up as a 45. This would be a discrepancy if they ever obtain your weapon and it is a 9. Personally wouldn’t risk this with my ccw. I think if you somehow get it ppt to you as a 9 or caliber changed on the doj, then this should be no problem.

I believe there’s a law in place spouses can’t just pick up and use your hand gun.
