    ccw in car

In ca., can I as a ccw holder, put a pistol in the center consol while driving? Or, in the door compartment. My pocket carry pistol isn't easy to access while driving.

Yes, if you're alone. If you have a passenger that can access the gun, that could cause issues.

Do keep in mind what can happen if you get into an accident at speed. The last thing you want is a loaded gun bouncing around the cabin. Choose wisely...and may the odds be ever in your favor.

PoFoo, my thought is to figure out a way to carry the weapon on your person. Doing so does a few of things for you...

First, you don't have to mess around moving the gun from some location to your person when exiting the vehicle (A Karen might see you handling gun and call the cops). Second, with the weapon on your person, you do not have to lock it up if there is a passenger because the weapon is not accessible by anyone but you. Third, you may run a-foul with LE at a stop if the gun is in your console or door compartment.

To have in my car legally is the only reason why I have a G34 and a 1911 on my CCW permit. If I could get my KSG shotgun on the permit I would.

I always keep my firearm on my person, I usually have kids and the wife in the car with me 9 out of 10 times so I know that would cause issues if I were stopped. If you're by yourself I don't see a problem, also as mentioned earlier you don't want to have your firearm flying around the car if you're involved in a collision so you may want to look into a vault or something similar to keep that from happening.

Out of curiosity, how come you're taking off your CCW pistol in the car? Holster uncomfortable?

Some of us are too lightly built to carry a full frame handgun. Having a full size service handgun in the vehicle separate from a compact carry gun would be a big plus.

For those carrying a full size handgun on your person while buckled in, where do you wear it?

4.25" M&P Core w/Trijicon 06 red dot in a JM Custom AIWB-WC holster at appendix (if that wasn't obvious). With the seat bolsters in my truck there is no way I can carry at 3 o'clock or further back.

I'm too fat to appendix carry. I can comfortably carry a 5 inch 1911 or an XD45 between 3 and 4 o'clock. The problem with this is it's nearly impossible to quickly draw from this position.

I have found ankle carry works well when seated in a car: the handgun is not accessible to a passenger, it is secure, yet readily available to me.
