Notifying officer at Border control checkpoint

There is a border control checkpoint between the range and my home in San Diego. If the agent decides to ask me any questions, am I required to notify that I have a license to carry and that I am carrying?

San Diego Sheriff does not require you to inform LE if stopped while carrying...unless something has changed since my last renewal 1.5 years ago. That said, it's probably a good idea if/when stopped by regular law enforcement.

For Border Patrol at a routine checkpoint, I would NOT mention it as long as the stop remained routine. That is, most the time they just wave you on through or ask you a couple questions and send you on your way. If it progressed to something more than that, and/or they pulled you out of the line into a secondary type inspection, then I would probably inform them that I was carrying.

Good luck...and may the odds be ever in your favor!

      ????
ATF Form 4473: If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is still a frame or receiver, not a handgun or long gun.

The only time you should worry about informing LEO about your CCW is if you are detained. Think traffic stop.

If you're just having a consensual conversation or border check, even DUI check point then no.

being stopped at a checkpoint is a detention as you are not free to leave until you answer questions or provide the documents they require. If it was a consensual encounter you would be free to leave whenever YOU want, not when they tell you that you can go.

The difference is that at a checkpoint you are not the target. Everyone is stopped. If you are sent to secondary, that may change things.

I used to travel routinely from Santee to Calexico, never once declared my weapon at the Pine Valley.
Nor did I declare it when I worked in Tecate and went through the Jamul checkpoint.

These are federal officers looking for immigration issues.

Not state officers enforcing state or local laws.

I have never heard of any issues at the 94/pink gate stops. Ever.
