Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I doubt we'll ever hear a CA judge say smoething so bold and in our favor, no matter how correct the statement is.

Not to call you out or anything. But part of the problem with LTC or CCW is that people are sitting on their butt and waiting for word that they are clear to get one.

You need to go down an apply tomorrow, you need to tell your friends to apply and put pressure on them. Three guys at my work were talking about "how its impossible to get a LTC in california". This crap kind of gets old to hear.

The other piece to that puzzle is that we can start finding out which counties are doing things the wrong way, or have unconstitutional practices. But we need people to start trying.

Again, this isnt aimed at you, you very well may have applied and been denied. In that case I apologize. BUT I do hear alot how hard it is to get one, and then you find out the person who said that doesnt even know someone who was denied.

You don't have to know someone that was denied to have a pretty good indication that applying would b a waste of time
If it wasn't for the cost involved I'm sure there are hundreds of folks that would apply tomorrow, now considering you have to drop a 100 or more JUST TO APPLY it tends to deter folks from doing so since its quite certain they won't get approved
Now if you ate willing to pay the application fees I'm sure we could get 10 or 20 to apply in San Fran or LA easily enough

I certainly don't mind being "called out". I haven't applied because I KNOW based on research that I couldn't provide a good enough for cause statement. I don't transport valuables, have never rec'd a threat, nor worked in Law Enforcement. If I lived in Butte County I probably would have one already which only highlights the arbitrary nature of the system.

The fact is I don't have the $$$ to invest in a 1% or less venture. Live scan is $92 alone and nothing is refundable if they deny. If I could apply for conditional approval pending Live Scan, range requirements. I would be there in a heartbeat.

I do believe we need to push, but me alone is not much of a push. Get 20 cal gunners to do it in concert and I will put my money and time into it.

That won't help in California yet.

When I spoke to the Sheriff of CoCoCo last month, he said he would change his policies if he were presented with appropriate court opinions; unfortunately, a lower court opinion from 4th Circuit doesn't have much influence out here in the 9th.

His office has been asked to review some of the 'mechanical' issues with the process, but those have little bearing on how he evaluates the apps that get to his desk.

That said, I don't discourage people from applying, so long as they clearly understand that the 'difficult' places in CA are still difficult, and the probability of receiving an LTC in those places is very, very low.

Thank you for that info Librarian. I will keep my eyes open for the first best opportunity to proceed. Who knows I may find myself in a NorCal county soon that wouldn't prohibit me as a matter of course. On the other hand I always felt safer up there too.
