carry holster for slim fit clothing

question for all you experienced ccw carriers

what is the best holster to use for ccw? I'm not sure on whether I should go iwb or owb.

I wear slim fit clothing and jeans and Id rather not change my fashion, so that's out of the question.

I'm looking for something that complements my clothing and is comfortable and steady.

    any suggestions are appreciated.

If you have room in your jeans definately inside the waistband. I wear wrangler jeans which fit pretty snug and tshirts and my carry weapon disappears. Have both a crossbreed super tuck and comptac Minotaur holster. It's a toss up for me which is better. I can tell you comptac customer service is superb. I also have a slim build and have no problem concealing my glock 26 and hk uspc with these holsters. Good luck finding the best one for you.

Might as well face up the fact now; you're going to end up with a whole drawer full of holsters that *looked* good but ultimately just didn't work. Everyone is individual, and I'm sure you'll get some good advice, but it'll just take time in holster to find out what work best for you.

And just for fun, I carry a Glock 30 and a Smith & Wesson Nightguard 386 in a pair of Comptac M-TACS. Though... not at the same time. Well... not often.

+1 on what QBG said above. I have a whole box full of holsters that I have tried before I wondered onto the one that works for me for daily carry. What kind of gun will you be carrying? Maybe I can sell you some holsters.

a box full of holsters? that sounds expensive. Id like to avoid paying for many holsters that Im gonna end up throwing away, hence my question on the forum

i am leaning towards inside the waistband because I mainly wear a tshirt and jeans.

I've heard good things about crossbreed supertuck although I haven't heard about comptac.

          I prefer a leather holster.

          I will be carrying a cz 75 p-01

If it helps I'm about 6 feet tall and weigh 170 pounds

IWB holsters conceal better than OWB holsters, which require a cover garment to use for conceal carry.

But, I find that IWB holsters equates to buying pants with a waist size 1-2" bigger than what I normally wear due to the width of the holster/handgun.
So I end up with pants/shorts for IWB carry and for non-IWB carry.

It's refreshing to see that folks are still fashion conscious and strive to look their best!

Have you ever had a hernia? Wear a hernia belt? I like my Russian Tokarev because it's thin enough to keep from poking out of my clothes and light enough that my hernia belt keeps it from shifting around. I clean the gun off a lot because it gets kinda sweaty down there and it's actually helping to work up that "collectable patina" that commands top dollar on the collector circuit.

The Tokarev fires a fairly stout cartridge as well. Give one a look-see, they're not that expensive.

I like my p-01 and am set on using it as my ccw.

I like the supertuck crossbreed, but on their website it says it takes 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. thats a stretch.

are there any other dealers who sell the supertuck or quikclip from crossbreed so I can get it faster?

I should also add that I'd like to have an extra mag compartment as a part of the holster

I ran into the same dilemma when i first started. I have a lot invested in "fashion" so i rather not change out my entire wardrobe.
I'm 5'8", 155lbs, and wear 31 pants (no gun, however some 31 pants will allow me to carry), 32 pants (with IWB + gun)

First and foremost, the gun you choose to carry will dictate how well it will conceal.
My first choice to carry when i wear "fitted" clothes is my kahr CW9 in combination with a holster similar to this:

The nice thing about these type of holster is that i prefer the leather feel over kydex. Also, having the belt loops on both sides of the holster itself instead of on the holster keeps the profile thin especially in fitted pants.
The above combo works very well for 32 pants and some of my 31 pants.

If you decide to move 1 size pants up, than your options for gun significantly increase. In addition to my Kahr, i carry an FNP with 32 pants with plenty of room to spare; same type of holster also.

However, i have found that all my suits will not allow me to carry IWB because the pants are to well fitted. I have a shoulder hoster for the kahr when ever im in a suit. Having a relatively smaller frame myself, any gun thats longer (like my fnp) will have the muzzle poke out the back of my arm pit with a well fitted suit jacket; very noticeble.

Currently at work, but i'll try to post some pix when i get home.

One more thing, dont forget to invest in a very stiff gun belt for IWB; there's no if's or but's about it, it is a necessity.

                    I've got a similar thin build. I'm 5'11", 160lbs.

I've also got a CZ P01. It conceals well with an IWB holster, but I know it's there.

I've also got a Springfield EMP, carried IWB.

The inch shorter barrel, and the thinness of the 1911 style, makes a huge difference.

Especially when sitting. I can almost forget about it, but not quite.

Reminds me of when I tried contact lenses, and couldn't get used to them

I told the doc, "it feels like I've got something in my eye"

                    He said, "you do"

To answer your question, my view is that, the size of the gun is a more determining factor than the holster.

So I agree with Sir Stunna Lot on everything he said.

I wear Wranglers with a 5" 1911 IWB quite a bit. I've got a rig from Andrew's Leather called a McDaniel II that is very minimalistic and works very well.

I think for a new CCWer, either the Comptac MTAC or Crossbreed SuperTuck is the best place to start. For one thing, both of these holsters offer a wide range of cant and ride height adjustments which will offer you the best chance of hiding a pistol with the least amount of change to your wardrobe.

But to be honest, you may well have to make at least some changes to how you dress, at least at certain times of year. IMO that's a small sacrifice for the ability to protect yourself and your loved ones, and one for which the residents of extremely restrictive counties would be happy to trade places with you.

In most cases, an IWB holster requires the least change to your wardrobe other than buying your jeans (or other pants) one size larger in the waist. OWB is more comfortable, but tends to print a whole lot more.

It is absolutely essential to also get a belt (or belts) designed to support the weight of a handgun on your hip. I have a couple of belts from The Beltman tat are top notch, but they were pricey. A lot of concealed carriers like the Wilderness Instructor Belts, and they are certainly more affordable.

Its the unfortunate truth. Everyone who carries a lot ends up with a bag of holsters that worked better on the dummy in the catalog than the dummy in real life. Doesnt make them bad, it just means they didnt work for your body type, wardrobe, gun or whatever. If you can borrow something and try it out before you invest, by all means do so. If not youll have to "bite the bullet" and buy it and hope.

I use an IWB from winthrop holsters. I like to think that I am slim...

From experience, these dont work too well for the purpose of the OP.
For slim clothing, the gun's best spot is 3:00 or 3:30 at the most to prevent the gun's handle from printing from the back when one is leaning forward. The issue with the mtac and supertuck is that they work better for 4:30 or further behind, anything more forward and the hardware begins to dig into one's thigh when sitting/squatting.

Though you are definitely on the slim side, the shirt you have on is too large to be considered slim fitting clothes. the 1911's butt will print too much with "fitted" shirts
