Riverside CCW Application

Alright guys, I'm starting the process. I just scheduled my CCW interview for the beginning of November (earliest available). What should I do between now and then to prepare? What should I know before the interview? etc... thanks guys!

Nothing, just be 100% honest to the absolute best of your memory. Cops like nice, clean, tight packages. Don't leave anything out involving LEO encounters.

Of course. In my line of work, any dishonesty, especially to LEOs could result in forfeiture of license, lots of lawsuits, etc... couple of questions...

1) Should I mention my BIL is a LEO and urged both my better half and me to get CCWs because of cases he's been involved in?
2) A couple of places ask about involvement in domestic violence... are they asking if I was the perpetrator, the victim, or both? (I was the victim -- as this is the case, how do I frame it?)

1) Yes, that would be anecdotal information, who knows, the back ground investigator may know your BIL. However, don't see how his issues are related to yours.

2) Just say exactly what happened, there would have been a police report.

Please, please, please have the application completely filled out and all related documents in order to present to the Deputy. Be thorough. Go over it again and again to make sure you have everything. They appreciate an organized individual.

You can mention your BIL in passing, but it will have no official bearing on your application.

You should put the domestic violence incident on your application and reference any police report.

If you even think something in your past might be relevant, list it. You don't want them finding out about something you didn't mention up front.

The interview is pretty casual. Just relax and talk to the Deputy. He may ask a few questions about your application, and even offer you some suggestions to help get it approved.

Congrats on taking the first step! The waiting is probably the hardest part of the process.

Thanks guys. What are the possible outcomes of the interview? I mean... is it yes we'll bump the application along or no you shouldn't apply... or will they help me work the application before submitting it? Should I expect the application to go in the same day as the interview or is there some latency period between the interview and "officially" submitting the application?

Edit: Also, to clarify, the domestic violence incident was when I was a kid and is not the direct reason/"good cause" for the application.

If there are things to work on to improve your odds, the Deputy will likely help you with suggestions. After the interview, you will be scheduled for range qualification and CCW class. You will also be sent for Livescan fingerprinting. Your application package is sent to admin for approval after the Livescan results come back, and after you have made any changes/additions that you have discussed with the Deputy. Once in admin, expect to wait approx 60 days. Could happen sooner, but why torture yourself?

Plus one for all of the above. I would add only, treat your interview in dress and conduct as if it were an important job interview. The Riverside CCW unit is really friendly and helpfull. Just be completely honest and they will assist you with your paperwork and the wording of same.
