    Getting CCW Restriction Removed... Possible?

I got my Stanislaus County CCW a couple months ago, but there is one big ugly sentence on the back of it. It says "NOT VALID DURING THE COURSE AND SCOPE OF EMPLOYMENT WITH XXXXXXX REALTY."

This really bummed me out because, as a real estate professional, one likely place for me to encounter a dangerous situation is when entering vacant homes. This especially rings true when I have to do it in dangerous neighborhoods as vacant homes are a breeding ground for crime.

(I know... preaching to the choir)

So here's why I think they put the restriction.

While I was turning in my application, they asked me if I was applying for a "work related" permit. I told them no and they asked me to write that it was not a work related permit on my application. There was another guy turning in his application at the same time as me and they asked him to do the same.

I did what they asked because I felt that the other option was telling them that it WAS a work-related permit. I didn't want to limit it to just work.

Now obviously I'm not in any less danger while I'm working, and this restriction doesn't simply limit me to not carrying while in my office. It also applies while I'm out showing homes right?

    Here are my questions.

    1. How can I get that restriction removed?

    2. Has anybody done this before and been successful?

    3. Also, what should others do when asked to write "not a work related permit" on their application?

38 views and no replies. My permit is San Bernardino, so rules are different. My county does not issue for work, period. However, it sounds to me like you really need it to be work related.

Thank You for the reply HighLander51.

I wonder if they would try to make me do something crazy like get two permits or something like that. One work related and one non work related. That seems like it would be a little crazy to me though.

          Haha...

This would be a good solution since it lists my current real estate company by name. I wonder if there's a part in the law saying that I have to update them if anything -- like employment -- changes though.

Nope - though it might be thought courteous to tell them, if the license were issued because you worked in county X rather than lived there. Since you don't say you got one of those 90-day things, not the issue here.

As to getting the restriction removed, have you called the issuing agency? I have no idea why such a restriction would have been added, unless your employer asked for it and the Sheriff's office decided to play along.

If THAT were the case, changing employers would seem to be a good idea.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

No, no agency will issue 2 permits. Sounds like you need to go back to the agency and talk about your options.

I'm going to try and call the Sheriffs Dept directly and see if there's anything I can do to get this removed. Thank You all for the ideas and help and I'll let you know what they say.
