    why get a CCW??

Ok, i know I'm going to get beat up here but bear in mind that I personally think any one should be able to carry if there able to have a gun at all. so that said, with all the places I cant take it even if I did get a permit. and all the hassle you would get if some one say caught a glance at it under your shirt at the park etc. why go through all the hassle of getting a permit.

    Where can't you take it?

The list is fairly small, Federal buildings that are posted, Courtrooms and the secure side of the airports are a few examples..

When I had my permit from San Bernardino county before I moved I didn't have any restrictions on when/where I couldn't carry. Aside from the federal buildings like Fjold said, I could carry anywhere in the state. I can conceal my gun very well, but it does feel strange at first going out in public. You feel like you are trying to hide a cannon on your hip and that everyone can see it. Once you get used to carrying you realize that nobody is paying attention to you and it is not at all hard to hide your gun.

In day to day life, the only times I have to take my carry arm off is courthouses and airports (to check it unless I'm going to NYC, Chicago, or Boston) when I'm flying.

          It's otherwise always on me.

            Carry

            Splashdown,

Like others have said, unless there are specific restrictions printed on your permit, the list of places you can't carry is very short.

It's pretty rare that I go to a court house, Federal building or Post Office. Wife wanted to visit a post office once while we were out, so I just parked in the lot of the grocery store next door and she walked over to the PO.

Having said that, I don't always carry, but most of the time I do. My employer doesn't allow firearms in the building, so I leave it in the vehicle.

Likewise, if we're going out for dinner where I plan to have a beer or two, I don't carry.

Other than that, I'm pretty much always carrying.

A handgun is easier to conceal than you think. I was out half the day today with a t-shirt tucked in to my shorts with a 5 shot revolver in my front pocket. No way anyone could tell it was there, yet it is available in an instant if need be.

Now, as a lefty, the re-load with a speed loader is NOT going to be a quick evolution....

I once carried in a questionable area concealed. I went to pickup a takeout order that was about 100 feet from my hotel, but I thought nothing of it thinking (100 feet and back...nothing can go wrong).

I walked into that establishment and there were police officers all throughout (must have been a popular stop). I was incredibly nervous even though I was breaking no "other" law.

Today, I do have my CCW ( Sac. SO). I have since walked into a few establishments with LEOs present. I didn't even think twice about it.

Criminals don't care about breaking the law, but I do...and I still support the ability for more to carry responsibly. It should be less restrictive in CA and definitely not as costly. However, even if it was dirt cheap to obtain, LTC/CCW training is still a must I say. Just my 2 cents though.

Also, like others mentioned...there are few restrictions to where you can go with it. I'd say the extra feeling of security is worth it for me. I went to a park nearing sunset that I normally wouldn't go because of its reputation (I promised my kids I'd take them and the "nicer" park near our house would have been after dark when we got there). I used to LUCC before my CCW. CCW gives me greater confidence than LUCC. If you are a LUCCer, you'll know what I mean if and when you get your CCW.

Why indeed. Why are we required as good citizens to ask permission to exercise a constitutional right? Realistically I don't expect constitutional carry to happen overnight so I applied for my LTC as my only outlet to exercise this right.

There are no places that I go to regularly that I can't carry. On the rare occasion that I have to go to one of those places I either lock it in the car, or leave it at home. It really is not hard to conceal even a large handgun if you have a good holster and belt and dress properly to conceal what ever type of handgun/holster combination you have selected. My boss has no problem with me carrying at work. I often interact with LE while at work. In fact this past weekend I worked a special event Saturday and Sunday. I worked alongside a local PD and CHP all day long. None of them noticed the J frame in my pocket.

is it true that if you have a CCW you do not have to wait the 10 days for back ground check.

No. All it gets you is an exemption for the safe handling demo, and no registration when buying ammo in Sacramento city limits.

So you post your picture in your avatar (I'm assuming that's you and you didn't steal a picture from GQ or Playgirl) and you also declare openly that you ccw everywhere. You are also a mod/executive of a very public gun site. That alone probably puts you in the cross hairs of trolls, anti's, banned users, etc., etc., etc.

Don't you worry that someone with the desire to make life difficult for you might see you at a restaurant or anywhere around town and decide to exploit the knowledge that you are probably armed?

Would you risk bothering one of those barbaric gun carriers? Evil mind-controlling rays destabilize the thought processes of folks with guns.

                            Or, so I've been told.

It does here in AZ, although the background check is a 3 minute call on the phone.
