There are a few "it dependes" caveats, but in general, if your boss owns or is the leasor of the property, then it is basically considered private property. Now, if the general public is allowed to come and go as will, I'd check with local govt. Is it indoors? Open carry, loaded (gun shop employee), or just concealed. If it's concealed, I don't see any issues whatsoever as long as you don't work at a location that flat out restricts gun possession like schools etc. I'm not an attornet obviously, but when I worked at a gun store with an open, loaded carry, people flipped out about it all the time, but legal nonetheless. Basically, it's like you walking around inside your house with a gun on you. I would say that to protect yourself, make sure your boss is really on board with it. Maybe get it in writing. If you shot someone and they sued the business, if you just had a handshake agreement, the boss might "forget" that he said you could carry a gun at work. Just think it out real well.

I sometimes carry in my shop. Both ways open and concealed. Just depends on the customers I have that day. Some are cool with it some are NOT... I own a jewelry store for those who will ask.

Yeah I'm sure he's on board. I'm actually gonna be training him on how to use firearms. The area where I work is getting pretty bad and were pretty much an all cash business and on top of that there's only one person working at a time til late. It's a family oriented environment so i cant carry openly.

You don't mention where you are, but it would be a really good idea to apply for your CCW if you are in any of the 'reasonable' counties (excluding, for the moment, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles and a few others).

Then, read Machtinger's chapter on carrying concealed. The intersection of PC 12025, 12026 and 12031 for carry at work is muddy if the person carrying is not the actual owner.

I'm in Riverside County. I've heard it's pretty hard to get a CCW here just to protect yourself. From what people are telling me is that your gonna really need to make a case for you to carry or if something has already happened to you.

you have to be carrying for personal defense, if you are carry to protect the company you need a guard card. its semantics, but you have to be careful.

I don't want to carry to protect the money or merchandise. If they want the money they can take it but if they want to take more such as my life or the life of one of my customers then I would protect us. Thanks everybody for the advice.
