    CCW Training without holster?

I don't have any concealable (IWB) holster yet for ANY of my sidearms.

I want to take the class and qualify, do they require me to have a holster?

How is the qualifying portion handled?

What are the distances, times, etc...?

    Thanks to all replies!

I think all the issues you mention depend on the county and class.

Even within the same county, the classes are not exactly alike.

No holster needed. I didn't need one anyway.

All the Sac courses I'm aware of will require drawing from a holster. It would be a good idea for you to get a holster for class. You'll need one for carry anyway.

I qualified all 3 guns from the low ready. No holster in class for any of my guns.

I dont recommend the instructor so dont ask.

Just contact your instructor and find out what they want.

My class didn't *require* a holster, but it made things go much more smoothly. I'd recommend getting a holster prior to the course if you can at all afford one. You are probably going to buy a few holsters before you find one that really works nicely for you, so you might as well start that process now.

Yeah, I'm well on my way to the proverbial box of tried and failed holsters. Still looking for the perfect one for me.

I never even thought about this, the only class I have taken so for was in Reno for my Nevada permit, they would not let you use a holster.

I took one class before my CCW and another after receiving it (just to have a different style of training) and used OWB holsters for both. They're not what I usually use for concealed carry, but they are just easier to use for class (mostly easier for re-holstering).

It's a lot easier with a holster, even if you don't ever plan to use it again.
We had to draw from the holster at least 50 times. I wouldn't want to do that from my pocket or waste band all day.
I used a Galco paddle type holster,it worked good for the class.

Check with the instructor; up here the classes I've taken have been primarily at the indoor range and no holsters are allowed.

My shoot was at the indoor Magnan range near the Executive Airport in Sacramento. Because we were a mixed class of CCW and open carry guards, we did have to draw from a holster, but not from concealment. I was able to use a kydex OWB paddle holster.

As redcliff suggested, check with your school/instructor ahead of time.

the course of fire will also depend on where you go for training! a holster that's already been adjusted for your gun would be very helpful though...

where are you planning on training at and what caliber(s) are you qualifying with btw? I only ask because if you're going to the course soon, you might be able to borrow a holster from the training academy or from a Calgunner in your area. I shot with an OWB at Mangan as well, even though I took the CCW written test

Mine required us to have and use a holster. Check with your CCW instructor.

Call your instructor is a common answer - Yep - good idea to satisfy the person that is helping you get you freedom.
I like the Kydex IWB made in New York by Fist-Inc.com 1A Kydex forward cant or extreme cant with sweat liner makes it comfortable.

                              Training Holster

I took my training from Ron Etchells at Sac Valley shooting center in Sloughhouse and he wanted you to have a holster for the training. But, he would not allow an IWB holster for the class. He has some to loan if you give him notice.
