    CCW Questions

OK i went in for my final interview/test/finger printing today. They say I should have my CCW mailed within a month
My question is is there any literature on a website or anywhere else for the do's and don'ts, when to pull it when not to ect. Other than the common sense stuff???. More of a situational guideline.

    Are you kidding me?
I ask this because your Instructor should have provided this information for you.

If he/she did not, call your issuing city/county and ask them for a source to this information as it is generally specific in many instances for that City/County.

I thought all City/Counties here in Calif required the 6-8 hour block of Instruction from a certified Instructor.

The following reading came highly recommended to me, and I am glad I took the suggestion.

On Killing by Col. Dave Grossman

The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker

In The Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob

There are lots of books available as well as plenty of info on the net. I would recommend absorbing as much of it as you can. Carrying a gun is a huge responsibility, and the shoot/don't shoot delimma reaches far beyond legalities.

      Good luck, and carry safely.

I did take it but.... I have had thousands of sales meetings in my career and don't remember everything. I wanted some other material to study up on to make sure i covered all the bases.
SO since you remember every word your instructor told and he told you everything there is to know. let all of us on this sight come up with every possible situation you can be in and see if you always made the right decision. One could make you dead, the other could put you in Prison or in a Huge civil suit in court
        You Ready?......

Mooboy, you are equipped already with what I currently use. Common sense.

Every situation? Well that is easy. Since we each have unique situations to refer to, I suggest you go back to every one that you have had, and see if carrying a firearm would have either made a difference for you, or how you could have best used that firearm in defense of yourself or someone else.
As for future situations you or I may be in, I again suggest you default to that common sense thing you have, and have used to get to the age that you are.

Beyond that, I would suggest formal training with a firearm to first equip you with strong basic technique in just the fundamental of shooting one. Then, once you have developed that basic ability through practice, move on to advanced training.
This will further equip you with confidence, and add to your resivoir of common sense as it applies to you.

          Good Luck.

I had mis-understood youir question, and now realize you simply are looking for more info beyond what the Instructor covered.. Excellent.. My best to you and your family.

This whole thread is funny... Considering what appears to be your profession, Matt, you were exceptionally gracious.

                    Just remember,

1, Anytime you bring out you firearm during a confrontation, regardless if you fire it or not, most likely your life will change forever.

                    2. If YOUR gun discharges for ANY reason it is YOUR fault. You must prepare for the consequences.

                    3. CC is a way of life. Train, train and train. Then Read and train some more. The above books are great resources.

                    Congratulations, and good luck.

Gavin de Becker is somewhat anti gun but the rest of the information in his book is really good stuff. I wish every woman would read it.

                          Here's a basic primer . . .

I just joined their network, and as a new member they sent me 3 DVDs that talk about the use of self-defense and what to do if you're even involved in a self-defense situation. These are videos that they produce themselves, so they're not available commercially. They are also working on more member's only instructional materials. You can access nearly 3 years worth of monthly journals they produce in PDF format that cover a lot of topics, and contain quite a few real-life stories. Massad Ayoob, John Farnham, and Dennis Tueller are among their advisory board, and personal interviews with them appear throughout the journals. They also have a member's only forum, and an online store where you can obtain other books/videos on the topic of self-defense.

Sorry for advertising. I'm not affiliated in any way, except for my own paid membership; it's just that I believe in their "product". It would be worth at least a few minutes of your time to check it out since you're getting a carry permit.
