Has anyone had to deal with the written test requirement of SB2 yet?

    Any info about it?

I'll be taking the class in May, so I'll see what's up.

I'm really looking forward to the mental health portion of the class. /sarc

Aside from the qual shoot, it's going to be boring day for my renewal.

I renew next year, so no help on the test. I did just receive the proposed instructor regulations . I bet it really chafes their arses to include NRA certified instructors still...lol.
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

I'm signed up for May as well. I guess we can compare notes when we're done.

The test is the least of my worries. Apparently I now need THREE references...because everyone knows that our founding fathers had to provide three references before they were permitted to carry their arms to militia muster.

Anyway, there are 7 billion people on this rock and I can tolerate...like...maybe six of you savages. None of whom, however, I feel comfortable asking for references from. So now what?

I just finished my 16 hours course. I had to let my ccw expire because of health problems so I had to start over.
The first time I applied the class time was beneficial. We did our range indoor. I really don't enjoy shooting indoors. When I did the 4 hours renewal it wasn't to bad. The worst part was we shoot indoor. Luckily I was the only one doing it.
The new 16 hours required is mostly boring besides the range time. The people who just need to renew their ccw attend the first day. We did 5 hours of class and 3 hours on the range outdoor. There was 6 of us. We all shot at the same time. With 2 instructors watching us. They gave us advice to help us draw, grip and shoot better. The renewal people got their paperwork that day. Two of us had to attend the next day for 8 hours of class. Most of it was stuff I already knew. My advice is if you need the 16 hours just be prepared to learn stuff that may not be beneficial to you.
The person I used the first 2 times isn't doing classes right now. I used split fire training this time. If your IA allows you to use them I definitely recommend checking them out

Some of the questions made no sense and the instructor made us aware of this. Everyone passed.

Classes can be boring but should not be. Content varies by instructor based on what they're willing to teach and what they think is important to teach. Check the syllabus of each to see which offers you the best value. Going in with the view of "all CCW classes are the same" is wrong.

There isn't a standardized test. So if some questions don't make sense it's because that instructor chose to include them.

That makes sense. I was a long-time fire service instructor certified to teach several State Fire Marshal courses and fire chemistry and physics, so I know how to make a class interesting.

My initial CCW class was pretty slow because there were new shooters in the class who needed instruction in topics in which I was already well versed. I also may have had high expectations because of my background. Hopefully, my upcoming renewal class will be more interesting.

You can't assume. Some instructors treat renewal classes as a rehash/summary of what was taught in the initial class. Others may introduce new content. It all depends on the instructor.

Personally there's some stuff that I have to repeat (laws, mental health) because it's required, but then there's other material I like to change every two years so renewal classes aren't a complete repeat year after year.

i am not assuming the renewal class will be interesting/boring/un-interesting. I am only hopeful it will not be a costly waste of time.

Unless it's your first time, I suspect you will be disappointed. I've been through the old renewal class three times now. After that many times, ain't no way to make the same information particularly interesting. And now there's going to be 8 hours of it instead of four. My expectation is that it will be TWICE as boring. And twice the waste of time. The whole process is dumb.

I just renewed two months ago and there were only 5 instructors up to date on teaching a renewal class. It was 8 hr class (4hrs each on two Tuesdays). The class was held online through ZOOM 6pm to 10pm. I don't recall a written test during the renewal class but the instructor did have to throw in a few slides about mental health per SB2. The instructor did highlight some information during the online class because there was a small quiz at the end. I wouldn't call it a quiz because he basically reviews/takes the quiz with everyone in the class. Qualification was the same 20rds for every firearm that you want listed on your permit.
