    Thinking of applying

My IA is South Pasadena. Small town, even smaller PD. Noticed they have a psyche eval, and 3 references, one being a co-habitant/spouse. I've never been committed, on any kind of hold, on no psyche meds, never arrested, convicted of any crime, etc. No DUI, some minor traffic violations many years ago. When I told my wife I was thinking of applying, she replied if I did, she would want to apply also.

What are they going to ask? Every time I've been pulled over? I remember being pulled over when I was 20, given a roadside sobriety test even though I had not been drinking, and let go. I was coming from a girls house, we were in the same math class, and studying/banging, semi dating. I was being a sarcastic dick to some degree. I grew up poor, I was poor at the time, I was going to college and working a crappy part time job, I was driving a POS diesel VW Rabbit that had no interior except for a driver seat. I got it cheap; it was literally all I could afford. When he asked me what happened to the interior, I replied that they did not offer interior on the base model. And he replied, get the **** out of the car.

Am I supposed to remember crap like this? Is there a record? Should I even bother?

The other issuing agency for where you reside (South Pasadena) is the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department.
^Research their fees and wait times, before applying to the South Pasadena Police Department.

CA laws were amended last year and effective 01-01-2024, all issuing agencies requires three character references for new applicants. [PC 26175(c)(1)]
^A psych eval is not mandatory and it is up the issuing agency to determine if it is required for their process of determining if the applicant is not a disqualified person. [PC 26190(e)]

You can read over the CA DOJ Standardized CCW application (BOF 4012, rev 01/2024), in order to better understand what is legally required to be disclosed on the CA CCW permit application.

Driving record is only asked about the last 5 years. Sounds like there is no reason you would be denied a permit.

Just be honest. Tell them what you remember and if they come back saying we found out about XYZ tell them the truth again. It's your best option and from what you've said so far it doesn't seem like you have anything disqualifying in your history. We've all had ticket or some type of encounter with law enforcement. Usually when we were young and dumb.
I will stand for truth even if I stand alone.

LASD website says either a contract city or unincorporated area. We are not a contract city, so I have to apply to South Pasadena. Looks like it's around $615 with the live scan and psyche eval. Seems like a lot to toss down the crapper just to get refused.

As long as your name doesn't appear on a police report you shouldn't even worry about what happened in the past.
When I was young and dumb I loved driving fast. I was pulled over for doing 95 in a 55.I was pulled over again for doing 80 with a trailer in a 55. Both times the officers wrote we up for 10 over the limit. Both were over 15 years ago. I applied and got my ccw over 4 years ago.
I have a family member who was a gang banner and been shot a couple of times. He never got arrested as an adult but did time as a kid.
He's able to buy guns and get a ccw .He's in his early 30s.

OP. it appears you were detained during that stop. Even though you were not arrested or charged, there was a chance that a report was filed.

It would be in your best interest to broach this during the interview. If you do not, and the IA knows about the stop, that will not be helpful for you.

Bought a Shield Plus today. I only have full sized handguns, so I needed something that might actually be comfortable to carry. Going ahead and applying. I honestly don't really care to carry a gun, I just want to apply because I can.

                  Compulsive...
Practice at home carrying a gun before you get a ccw.
You'll see how easy it is and get comfortable with it. Practice drawing with a empty gun also.
Once you get use to having one you'll feel naked without it.
I use to feel like there was no reason to own a AR. After shooting a few I had to have one.
In my opinion you'll feel the same way about carrying

A Shield is a very comfortable CCW gun and in my opinion a very good choice to start with. They are small and light enough to conceal anywhere. I think you will appreciate carrying it during the summer months also. You don't have to worry as much about them printing. As you are applying for your permit, add some full sized handguns from your collection also even if you think you might not ever carry them. Having carry choices is good down the road.

I still have an old Armalite RAW. I honestly can not remember the last time I shot it. It really just comes down to the cost of .223 these days, and me not wanting to use up my ammo stash, but yeah, they are fun to shoot.
