Live scan time frame.

I have friend and he has son. That son doesn?t have cleanest record in the universe-two arrest in the past, 10-15 years ago, couple traffic tickets recently. No felonies. He purchased couple guns recently, in fact one of them he got about month ago. On December 9 he did live scan because his turn for interview with LAPD was scheduled on January 12th. From December 12th till now he still doesn?t have results for DOJ and Firearms. FBI came out in the same day as he did live scan. He went to interview and it went very well, detective said those arrest was long time ago, but he likes that boy report everything with details and paper work.
Question is-what is time frame for background check? It should be some answer-positive or negative, but should be something. What can he do to find out or clear up? Any advice?
Everyone I know, including my self-live scan results were maximum in 10 days. This kid now is more than a month!

Mine was just the opposite... DOJ & firearms was a day or 2... FBI more like 10.

Update-this morning it shows CA DOJ is completed. Still Firearms pending.

It varies person-to-person.

I've done 2 different livescans (one for CCW, one for FFL license) in the past 6 months and FBI + DOJ always gets completed same day (clean record, no traffic records as well). The firearms part always take ~20 - 30 days for me each time. I don't have a crazy arsenal nor has any of my firearms changed hands 10 times over...

Today update-finally all three are “completed”.
He seems pretty good case to see how past history and current two tickets will play on license issue.
