San Bernadino Cty Can't Submit Renewal as Classes are Completely Booked

My CCW will be expiring in a few months so I started the renewal process. It looks like they are utilizing a system by Permitium to enter all your information and schedule a class for renewal mandated by CA 8 hrs. I had entered all my information and the last thing I had to do was select a date for the range. Unfortunately the dates did not go past 8/24/2024 and NO dates were available AT ALL. This prohibited me from submitting all my documents and information as you are required to select a date based upon what's available. I called their office and they said you can't even start the renewal process until a date becomes available......as well as filling out the information all over again due to it not saving. They mentioned they might be adding outsourcing and etc but could not provide me any solid dates or time frames.

What kind of shenanigans is this? I will no longer be able to carry because I am unable to submit my paperwork due to them not having ANY class dates available? What can you even do at this point?

I am tempted to mass email Sheriff Shannon D Dicus and all the deputies to ensure they are all aware and the frustration it brings........

Requiring classes is not only unconstitutional it violates Bruen.
ATF Form 4473: If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is still a frame or receiver, not a handgun or long gun.

Seems like being a CCW instructor could be quite a lucrative job for retirees.

        IMO...

It is the intended consequences of the CA legislature decertifying previously approved CCW trainers and requiring a new certification process for non-LE firearm trainers.

The CA legislature wanted to bottleneck/slow down the issuance of carry permits by limiting the amount of people that were legally qualified to be CCW trainers.

The no dates past August is budgetary issues.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department not knowing/having their budget for their CCW unit is due to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors not passing the budget yet (it usually gets determined around September of every year).

It would be more effective to lobby the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to budget more money for the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department and specifically their CCW unit, then it is to send grievances to the San Bernardino County Sheriff, who is dependent upon the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors for budgetary issues.

So there will of course be a lawsuit brought to stop this and by the time the bottleneck is fixed, the CA legislature has already won regardless. We seem to have been much better off pre-Bruin at least near term...sucks!

No new taxes. The Gov takes too much as it is.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors determines how to spend the taxpayer money they currently collect.

Requesting them to divert more funds from existing taxpayer funds to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department, specifically their CCW unit, is not an unreasonable request.

The fact is, when compared with every Southern California Sheriff Department, the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department has lowest budget but has jurisdiction of over the most territory in Southern California.

SBSD CCW unit inefficiency due to budgetary concerns is one of the consequences of the SBSD having a small budget.

That was obvious and intentional. By leaving the licensing requirement in place the circus will go on.

I just filled out the online application, and I?m stuck too at the scheduling an appointment.

Wow. So frustrating, but thanks for posting. I?ll try again soon.

their goal is to give you only two options, either you don't comply, or you don't carry.

whichever option you pick, let me remind you no other right requires a licensing fee, a background check, finger printing, databases, training, or classes

This is exactly as they have intended. You should really post this to the San Bernardino board and see if you can rally the troops. Everyone should start mass emailing the sheriff's office and keep emailing them until they provide a real solution.

But the sheriff is probably going to say his hands are tied because Sacramento did this, not his office...which I personally think is a bunch of crap. I don't care if the Sheriff's office has to start teaching the classes themselves. And the sheriff has to personally give up his weekend to teach classes. That's what should happen here. It's BS!

I guess theres no more online renewal.

I suggest calling your assemblyman and Senator and ask them to extend the valid permit period from 2 years to 5 years.
                          This would alleviate the bottleneck.
Todaybthe wait for units permit is 12+ months at the LAPD and 18 months for the LASD.

Wait a minute. They gave extensions last year for their computer system breakdown. They need to give extensions for no available training.

I emailed SB County and received a quick reply that the higher ups are working on a solution that may include additional classes and/or contracting with vendors. They said an update should be posted in the near future.

                              Let’s hope so.
