PPT Non-Approved Handgun for CW EDC

    Hey gang,

Got my approval for my CCW... many thanks to the forums for all the insightful information.

I am now in the process of waiting for my paperwork to begin class.

    I have a great 9mm full PX4 Storm that I love.

Been looking at the concealed carry and sub compact variants, but just found that they are not on California's approved handgun list.

Found a good option here from a local seller and want to do the PPT, only question I have is, can I register this firearm as one of my CWs in Los Angeles?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Shouldn’t be an issue.

Do the PPT and pick up the gun.

As long as the guns you want on your permit are listed in your AFS record, you should be good to go.

      Good luck in your class!

Yes, any non roster is fine as long as it belongs to you. The IA will need to verify the serial before you qualify with it. Some IA have caliber restrictions and firearm can not be single shot only.

I have a pistol on my permit that is not on the Roster. My suggestion is to check with your IA to make sure you are GTG.

Folks if you have questions that are specific to your county, like this one, you're really better off asking in the county thread for your specific IA. Anyone who answers who doesn't/hasn't lived in your county is just speculating.

I don't know if you meant LAPD or LASD. My permit is from LAPD. All they require is that it DROS'D to you. All three of the guns on my permit are off roster. Furthermore, one is a P365 X-Macro, but permit only says "P365," which to me means I can switch to non X-Macro configurations. There's something in the paperwork about prohibiting illegal modifications, but nothing against other mods like sights, optics etc. I've read other jurisdictions are very restrictive about what guns you can carry and don't allow modifications.

                Thanks for the info..

still searching for a PX4 SC or CC before I take the courses. Unfortunately non have popped up in a close enough radius to make the purchase make sense.

Four of the five guns on my permit are off-roster. I don't think many IAs care.

When I was in CA 2 out of my 3 were non-roster PPT. As mentioned, just need to be "in your name."
