Ccw approved question about 8 hour class

Usually the vendor will have some sort of curriculum.
For example, the 12 hour classroom portion I plan to take just used the 4 hour NRA introductory class to add hours.
I guess there is no standard curriculum defined by the state. It just has to burn up hours and discourage people from dealing.
Go into it thinking you are a totally clueless person that has never seen a firearm before and will be indoctrinated into the California version of gun knowledge from how to store it, ammo, and child safety, then CCW limitations of where and when you can be armed, and legal use of the firearm in defense of you and yours, and then eventually firearm care and use from scratch.
It's going to be everything from the most basic level. Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.Comment

Mine for LASD was about 4-4.5 hours of class time, about 1-1.5 hr of breaks and lunch and about 2 hours of range (of which only about 30 minutes was me actually shooting). Yes, a 30 question multiple choice test. Please note that this is a CCW class, not an intro to shooting class. You should have basic pistol training and competency before showing up.Last edited by G-forceJunkie; 11-16-2023, 9:21 PM.Comment

^^^ THIS.
Classes can really vary by IA and even schools/ranges within the same IA. Particularly with the shooting test. Figure out exactly where you want to take your class and then post in the county board and ask about that specific trainer/range."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

This is something I think a lot of people don't realize--while multiple vendors are approved by a given IA, it's up to each instructor to decide what they think is important to teach and what they're willing to teach.
That sounds like a bad use of time. I could have included the Utah CCW instruction content (4 hours) so students could get a Utah non-resident permit. But Utah's material is basically 4 hours of NRA Basic Pistol content. I'd rather spend that time teaching more advanced topics and students can get an Arizona non-resident permit instead. For example, the 12 hour classroom portion I plan to take just used the 4 hour NRA introductory class to add hours.
It doesn't have to be. This goes back to my first comment. In my 8 hour classes I include practicing OWB and AIWB holster draw, low-light flashlight techniques, emergency medical care and other "advanced" topics. I put "advanced" in quotes because I think they should be a standard part of basic CCW training. It's going to be everything from the most basic level.SF Bay Area firearm training
