I peppersprayed someone while carrying

I was in DT Long Beach with my friend and we heard a small crash and then a lot of yelling and screaming. A homeless guy had stolen someone's bike and got hit by a car as he was riding off.

The owner of the bike ran after and was yelling at the homeless guy. The homeless guy started to get angry and took off his hoodie, threw it on the ground(A sign of a fight about to start), and chased some witness around trying to beat him up.

A crowd of 40+ gathered and everyone was yelling and screaming for him to stop. The homeless guy was able to catch the witness, throw him on the ground, and start punching him in the head. His face started getting bloody. I stepped up and pepper-sprayed the guy. Everything was in slow motion and I was able to see the stream of pepper spray go across his eyes. He quickly stopped punching and grabbed his shirt to wipe his eyes and walked away. Cops came seconds later and everyone pointed down the street to where he'd walked.

I was carrying so I disclosed to the cops I was a CCW holder. He put my hands behind my head, patted me down, and asked me to sit on the curb for a statement. I also told the officers my Sabre pepper spray is a 3 in 1 with UV dye so it should be easy to ID him. Other witnesses told the officer I was the one who stopped the fight. He told me I was free to go and said, "Good job not using your firearm". He also said in 13 years as an officer, I was the first person he'd met on the street with a CCW.

CCW works. Makes you more level headed, aware and ultimately reduces overall damage by a big percentage.
Unfortunately, as Colin Noir says, every time a situation is difused by by a ccw where a shot was not fired, does not get included in any gun studies....

Good job. Doesn't surprise me that in LA/Long Beach a cop could go 13 years and not encounter a CCW holder given the historical state of things. Hopefully that changes now that CA is shall issue.

Good shoot. Hotheads can kill you over nothing. Hothead did not use OC spray defensively and once someone sprays you and won?t leave who knows what?s next.

That guy is a talking head, you really think it matters (in court) what he thinks about anything? He does make quite the first impression though...

I think the point is for him to reflect the courts. No one expects the courts to mirror him.

Now we can debate how well he reflects the courts, and that is a valuable debate to have. But the idea that courts look to ASP for guidance? That's fighting a position no one has.
