    CCW paper copy

Can someone please clarify whether or not paper copy is required? I have seen that some IAs do not even give it to you anymore, but San Diego Sheriffs office told me I can?t carry without it. Turners in San Marcos wouldn?t even let me buy a gun without the paper copy.

    Is SDCGO working this?

I was told you need to have it with you, but the other one (less detail) is what you hand to any officer who pulls you over.

I was never given the paper permit. I have only the card.

Let's use a fishing license as an example. If F&W asks where is your license to fish here; do you show your license or a receipt for the license? Better have the license as required; otherwise, you will most likely be cited.

I folded mine up and put it in a plastic sleeve that a challenge coin came in. It'll keep it free of butt sweat and such for the next two years.

I tuck it behind the plastic DL type card from the Sheriff.

You must follow the directions of your Issuing Agency (IA). As already posted, every IA has an opinion of its own, and is sure that its opinion is the Real Way.

State law does not even require you to carry any CCW doc, though that seems a poor choice.

At least one IA suggests laminating the paper sheet for wallet carry.

I like the sleeve idea though. You can get RFID-protective sleeves that are robust for wallet carry.

My IA provided a laminated paper copy in a 4x6" form. No ID card yet.

You generally need to carry your permit, whatever form (plastic or paper) it was issued. Check out your IA requirements, it's the best source.

Mine laminated it for me - would prefer they reduced it a little more first,
the card they got to the same size as DL.

That makes no sense. You need a CCW to buy a gun? Couldn't you do the transaction without telling them?

OP, were u using the ccw as an exemption to the fsc? that is the only reason i could think of why they wouldn’t complete the sale without it.

I once did a ppt for a rifle where I presented my ccw as the fsc exemption as the buyer. They wanted to copy the hard card too after I gave them the paper copy.

Per SDSO, yes, you need to carry the paper one. It is an official one.

                            I carry both.

Last time I used it for FSC exemption, the store asked for the paper.

My first permit, the paper copy came laminated... when I re-qualified and added a weapon, the new permit paper permit wasn't laminated, but SDSO handed me the card as well.

Being a 2 year permit, it is folded into a square, in a plastic sleeve and stuffed into my wallet.... I don't care what it looks like, its the state's problem if it looks like trash, I am carrying it and it only has to last 24 months.

The crazy thing, the permit is just a print of a computer page, no live signatures on the paper, any LEO that comes across the permit in a professional capacity can call it in to verify the permit is valid.

Maybe the only positive thing out of SB2... the verbiage is included for the DOJ to standardize the card permit state wide.
