    LAPD CCW interview

Hey guys fairly new here I just went to my CCW interview September 19 at the police academy LAPD division everything seem to have gone very fast I was given a paper and told I can do my CCW training if I like but most people will wait for the ok before doing it because it's not cheap is what the officer said to me

He also said he needs to wait for my live scan if everything is ok I should be good

Now the following things said below I told the cop at interview time

Age 18 I got caught for petty theft under 20$ and was given a ticket not arrested I also explained by detail what happened and that I had put the shirt on my shoulder while talking on the phone and forgotten and walked out while on the phone talking to at the time girlfriend she was giving me issues for going to mall without her

    From 18 to 20

License suspended 2 times for tickets I couldn't pay for but then tickets was paid for and license was back to normal never stayed long suspended possibly at most 4 or 5 months

    Between 18 to 21

Got caught with weed and was given a ticket both times small amount maybe 2grams not individually 1 of these was turned into disturbing the peace with fine paid

    When I was 30yo

I went through 2 eviction and just had a had my son was stressed out about rent and taken care of my wife and kid so I said I will pay my ticket later and take care of more important things well that turn into bench warrant and 1 nite after work I drop off my work car take personal to go get baby formula and I didn't turn on my turn signal on only lane turning right and cop pulled me over and arrested me next day I see judge and she said time served I'm free to go

I also stated to CCW interview that I have a active restraining order on someone

    I'm turning 40yo September 27

Anyone here that can tell me if this would be issue for not getting CCW

I have nothing to hide it's all on live scan and court records even on here I have nothing to hide from my past

    *****UPDATE******

INTERVIEWING officer email me back saying that he is happy that I disclose those things before he submit application to the department that looks at my application and the live scan he said from what I've mentioned that he see nothing nothing that is not of "moral character" and if that's all and nothing more serious pops up or I lied about something he said I should be clear

I keep checking my live scan results and 1 or 3 is completed

FBI complete next day of live scan but CA and firearm still pending but I'm pretty sure most important thing to LAPD is FBI scan

But from the officer email I'm more confident now and I don't feel 50/50

Yea, it likely all depends on how LAPD regards the moral character issue...ie if they like to use that as a means of disqualification.

Note that any assessments on moral character are absolutely unconstitutional as there are no historical analogs at the time of the founding for restricting carrying based on moral character...or restricting for any of the things you list. But some IA's are doing it anyway and it will likely take some legal challenges to get them in line.

You may want to post in the LAPD specific thread as those folks may have a better idea on how LAPD looks at these types of things. But LAPD has only recently started issuing so there's probably not much history/track record to go on.

No felonies and no crimes "of moral terpitude".
I think it's more important that you have disclosed everything that may pop on a background check.

Otherwise, it would appear that 5 years back is kind of what they focus on:

I cannot for the life of me get photos to imbed any longer...but that is a link to a photo of the basis for my acceptance for my LAPD issued CCW.

The criteria are pretty clearly spelled out and unless you didn't disclose something, or check one of those listed boxes in a negative way...you're likely good.

Little update above email from CCW interview officer

I believe from my understanding good moral character is telling the trust about your past history of things that are not good moral character example fighting getting arrested drinking driving weed or drugs that you might have gotten caught with

Even though they focus on last 5 years they still want you to come clean about stuff from when your young adult 18yo

Always remember chances are FBI going to bring it all up anyway so your not fooling anyone and if you say something that might not stick to your record they can't use that against you anyway because it was dropped

Still waiting for response this is really crazy wait considering they got everything from my end and considering they look at my history and tell me if I'm approved or denied simple process extended for no reason I called LAPD CCW division today and talked to lady that wait I need to wait at the minimum 90 days and if at this point I don't hear from them to then reach out

I remember a thread here that people posted time line and stuff can't find it anymore

My interview officer notified me today he got my CCW class paperwork

How long do you think it will take to go pick up my permit from LAPD headquarters?

They have 90 days to issue from your interview date. You should be issued before the end of the year.
My guess is you will have a Dec 19, 2023 pickup date.

Are they issuing it every week now? I got email yesterday and phone call today for my pick up on next Tue Dec 12th.

Probably just trying to work through the backlog. They are doing much better than the LASD. I understand LASD has 8,000 and LAPD has 4,400 applicants somewhere in the process.

I suggested his pickup date as it is the last Tuesday within the 90 days of his interview.
