CCW Issuance Held Up By Cheif?

Ive had my completed permit into my IA now for almost 3 months with no word back other than "its on the Chief's desk". I know there is no prescribed limit on how long it takes to be approved but I fear my IA going to sit on this as long as possible in order to slow CCW issuance. I have not been able to get a hold of the Chief or even get an email through to her.

Anyone had this happen? Any good ideas on how to proceed without majorly rocking the boat?

Which county? Perhaps ask this in the appropriate county subforum and hopefully someone local can offer suggestions.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

CA laws... (Note parts in bold and in red)

      Penal Code 26205
The licensing authority shall give written notice to the applicant indicating if the license under this article is approved or denied. The licensing authority shall give this notice within 90 days of the initial application for a new license or a license renewal, or 30 days after receipt of the applicant's criminal background check from the Department of Justice, whichever is later. If the license is denied, the notice shall state which requirement was not satisfied.

Maybe the Chief knows you’re an underwear gnome

But stating which Issuing Agency you applied would be helpful.

Got 90 days to reply - if it's sat this long expect a no. Then go to your County Sheriff who may also say no just so your chief doesn't look like an idiot.

So let's clear up a few things here first.

"Ive had my completed permit into my IA now for almost 3 months"

Has your permit been approved, with all steps completed, or have you at this point just submitted an application?

If all you have done is submit an application, you've still got a couple of steps to go through still. Also it's probably a good idea to let us know where you are talking about.

+1. ^^^^ THIS. The majority of us won't live in your county so we're really just speculating. Find your county specific board and post there.

With that said, we know there are some counties that are intentionally dragging their feet with complying with Bruen. These counties will eventually be brought in line but it will likely take time...and a lawsuit or two. You might try reaching out to the relevant 2a goups like FPC, CRPA, etc., and see if they have any information/insight on your specific county...and to make sure they're aware of what your county is doing.

              Good luck!

Always curious when people joined CG 10 years ago, but just get their first post in now.

OP, any chance of that IA info? How are you getting the info regarding your app that you are getting? If your app has been on the Cheif's desk for 3 months, how long ago did you apply? How confident are you with how the interview went? Anything odd with qualification?

If this is genuine, I have a feeling the app was submitted 3 months ago. So just another 3-21 months left to wait. Any IA taking longer than 2 years now? I feel like most of the lagging IA's have quickened up a bit. Thank you SCOTUS.

@mk2dave - I am a long time lurker. Liberal use of the search function usually answers my questions. I would rather bash my hand with a hammer than argue with other random people on the internet, so posts are minimal across all my interests and forums that i am part of.

Info on my application has been coming from the Sargent in charge of the CCW process for the city. They use the MPA system and I have an email from him on April 18th stating that everything is complete and "under review by our Chief". Interview went great, no issues with my background or qualification.

@acfixer - LA County but my local town is the IA, its a small town and I would rather not doxx myself if possible. Its south of LAX and end with Beach.

@P5ret - Poor wording on my part. No permit yet. Application for permit has been submitted and was confirmed complete but the Sargent in charge of the CCW process.

I'm familiar with that town, as I live in the smaller neighboring town. Luckily I got in with LASD before the deadline, as the chief of my town wanted 16 hours of training, a psych eval, and still said it would be at his discretion. Best of luck!

Are they playing the delay game in hopes of Senate Bill 2 being enacted so they can tell you to start over with a new applicaition?

I called out the Penal Code reference that Quiet sent over. According to Sargent, hes reminding the Chief about my file this week. Not happy with the feet dragging but hopefully I dont have to resort to a letter from the CRPA or similar.

let me make sure I understand this situation. You want the help of ither Calgunners, but don't want to give enough information to actually get any real help.
