    Phone interview or in-person?

There are two locations available in Riverside: Ben Clark (same city as myself) and Palm Desert (1+ hours away).

Are phone interviews being done regardless of the physical location? Or is there a good chance I'll need to appear in Palm Desert if I can reschedule and get it sooner?

At the first opportunity, take it whenever, wherever, and however you can get it.

I did my interview in person in Palm Desert about a year ago, its closer to me than Riverside. My understanding of how things work is the CCW interviews go back and forth between the 2 locations so you should be able to get an interview done at Riverside in a reasonable time frame, depending on the amount of applications needing to be gone through, when I was going through the process I was told there were 5 thousand applications waiting to be gone through, and there are only a couple people in the CCW unit.

UPDATE: I was driving to my interview and about 1 mile away when I got a call from the investigator. Apparently, I had a phone interview but wasn't notified because I rescheduled my original date for much earlier.

It went well I'm just waiting for the Live Scan to come back from the DOJ. I've been warned that they're taking up to 6 weeks due to the backlog.

In my rural county the interview consisted of the County Sherriff talking to a group of 10 people about crime trends, responsibility of safe gun ownership and thanking everyone for going through the expensive and time consuming process on getting a CCW permit in California. I was told that he personally reviews every permit application before the "interview" and if he didn't get a good vibe from anyone in the room, they would not get their permit. Everything about the process instilled confidence in giving the man my vote at the next election.

Yeah take first available then check for cancellations often . My original date was 10 months out . I kept checking and inside 3 weeks I got a an earlier appointment. How early you ask , I was checking Sunday and the next available appointment was the next day Monday . I ended up having my license in hand with in 100 days of application . Which was pretty good since my initial appointment was supposed to be 300 days from initial application. I really lucked out and you can to haha .

Oh I did. I have everything complete now. Only took two weeks, total. I'm just waiting for the Live Scan results, which should take another 3 weeks (from today).
