P365 / P365xl owners - CCW question

A few thoughts:

- The standard P365 is a bit big for pocket carry in my opinion. Doable but still will print quite a bit. If I truly was going to pocket carry, it'd have to be something LCP sized
- Re how easy it is to swap, it's pretty easy, but still takes 3-5 mins to remove the slide, punch out the rollpin holding in the FCU, and put into another grip and punch it back in. Probably won't work for your plan if you constantly need to change from 365xl size to 365 on different days

My recommendation for this would just be to keep the standard sized grip on there all the time, and then buy these grip extensions to get a full sized grip, if that matters to you

Under current CA laws, the issuing agency authorizes what handguns are listed on the permits they issue and the authorized handguns must be listed by Make, Caliber, & Serial Number. [PC 26175(i)]

Each issuing agency is allowed to determine their own approval process for determining what they will authorize.

Some issuing agencies will only allow modifications that they allow their LEOs, some issuing agencies do not allow any modifications, and some issuing agencies allow almost all modifications as long as they are configured to be CA legal and match their AFS records.
^So, you need to determine if your issuing agency allows modifications to your approved carry handguns.

If the handgun you carry does not exactly match what is listed on your carry permit, then you will be treated as not having a valid carry permit while carrying that handgun.
^If the handgun's caliber or serial number is different than what is listed, then it equates to illegal conceal carry.


AFS lists a firearm by type, action, make, model, caliber, barrel length, and serial number.

There is current CA legislation that will require handguns to be registered to the permit applicant and to exactly match their AFS record, in order to be eligible for listing on a CA CCW permit and if that proposed CA legislation passes (which Gov Newson wants to pass), then your carry handguns need to match their AFS listing (which includes barrel length). So, changing the barrel length would cause your approved carry handgun to become illegal to carry.

I hade both the standard 365 and the xl. I don't view the 365 as a pocket gun, it just prints to much. The XL is the better option in my opinion because, taking the pocket out of the equation, it isn't any harder to conceal than the standard 365 plus you get the benefit of a longer barrel and less recoil.

Curious, how are you intending on carrying both?
For me the 365 requires constant practice because it's such a small pistol and is one of my least favorite options (even though it's the most comfortable).

If your attire is gym shorts (or yoga pants) with a belly band, the 365 practically hides itself.

It sounds like you have a gameplan in mind so I think a lot has to do with how you normally dress, occasionally dress and prefered method of carry.
I prefer the SP-01 or a 1911 for a daily so my attire revolves around that (tshirt and shorts or polo and jeans etc). The occasional dress is where I get get picky about the gun size/location/holster combo.

IANAL. My IA allows modifications. These are just my thoughts:
As for the FCG, I think you first need to make sure your IA allows modifications.
Then ask yourself will the gun malfunction for any reason when you need it most or don't intend it to.
Finally, ask yourself about the stories a jury will be told about the modification at trial and if that will harm you.

Swapping things around gets old real quick. I suggest you get separate guns for varying purposes. Keep in mind, if you want to mix things up, you can't change your approved guns until permit renewal time. You'll be stuck with what you've submitted until that time.

Glock 19, a P365, and a P365XL.
What would be taking the place of one of the SIG P365 models if one is dropped or does the OP only own three handguns anyway?

When I get hope tonight, I am going to test how long it takes to swap, but I bet I can do it in about 1 minute. We need to have a Calguns Sig FCU swapping tournament.
