Yes, I use a Holosun 508 on my Glock 26. Really like it and it works well, especially since my near vision is not as good as it used to be.

There is no restriction against it in L.A. County. FYI, I'm using a Holosun 508 on my 9mm 1911.

I understand the desire to have some fancy “dots” and mods to your EDC, very cute. I carry every day, and all I ever carry is a stock pistol because I don’t want to try to justify anything more than that to a jury. Any prosecutor worth a rats *** will come after you in a huge way for your cute little modifications. You don’t need fancy **** in a defensive situation. Point it, and shoot it.

This concern appears quite regularly.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but outside of the Rittenhouse trial last year, do you have any cases you can point out where a prosecutor attempted to make gun configuration an issue at trial? (and, Rittenhouse was not 'configuration' so much as standard nonsense about AR-type as 'weapons of war').

Far more important is whether the incident might really be 'self defense' no matter what weapon might be used - as shown by the result of the Rittenhouse trial.

As to "fancy “dots” and mods ", perhaps your eyes are still young; mine need some technical support.

While I would love for you to cite a relevant case, trying to "come after" a defendant for a red dot on their handgun would be a huge backfire for that imaginary prosecutor.

It's apparent you don't understand how the red dot makes everyone safer in a defensive encounter. And the number of law enforcement agencies who are deploying red dots for their force only reinforces that.

Your "[Just] point it and shoot it" oversimplification of self defense encounters suggests that you haven't put in much work in this area.

I've carried with a red dot for so long now, I can't really remember for certain when I started.

I'm pretty sure it was early 2013 when the M&P C.O.R.E first came out. I put a Trijicon RM07 on it.

What a cute little post.

A good shoot is going to be a good shoot. It isn't going to suddenly turn bad because you put a red dot on your pistol. And any defense attorney worth a rats butt can counter any ridiculousness from a prosecutor...if I am unable.

Prosecutor: Mr. Cabo, I see you put a "cute little fancy dot" on your weapon of mass destruction. Clearly this is an indication that you are a blood thirsty killer who was just looking for a fight.

Me: I see you've been talking to dbmosely. I put a...what was it...oh yea..."cute little fancy dot" on my pistol to improve accuracy, to ensure that I hit my target and NOT send rounds down range where they might harm an innocent person. This was the same weapon I qualified with with the San Diego County Sheriff's department and at no time did they indicate that this was problematic. BTW...the SD Sheriff's department allows their officers to use red dots as does the San Diego Police Department. My pistol and optic is no different than what local law enforcement agencies use for their officers.


My first priority is to survive the damn gunfight so that I will be alive to face whatever nonsense comes next. Accordingly, I will make any REASONABLE and LEGAL modification that helps ensure/increase my chances of survival. And if an idiot prosecutor wants to try and come after me for my red dot, so be it.
