Adding Guns

Hello, I am getting my CCW permit soon and don't yet own the gun I really want on my permit since I can't afford it right now. Could I add on this gun if I cerify at range with it in the future months after having my permit for a while? I am in Sacramento fyi, Thanks in advance.

Most IA allow it but its not free. Stanislaus allows it but it's 10 bucks for the new card and the new card does not change your expiration date. You also have to pay a trainer to certify you on the new gun.

Over the past few years, Sac Sheriff has limited weapon changes/adds to renewals, only. However, their website (scroll to bottom) is now providing instructions on modifications which includes

GUN MODIFICATIONS are submitted to remove or add an additional firearm(s) to your current CCW Permit (please see the Firearms section above to view firearm requirements). Completing a MODIFICATION Application, be prepared to upload the following:

A copy of your valid California driver’s license, or California ID.
Training and Qualification Form and the Firearms Training Certificate from your Firearms Instructor
When you are notified to pick up your Modified Permit due to a Gun Modification, you will be required to turn in your old permit as you cannot possess two CCW Permits.

This may be old boilerplate on the website, or it may be a significant change to policy.
