Registration?

I've been licensed in Kern Co. for many years. Recently, when I submitted my application for renewal, I received an email from the Sheriff's office stating that "according to the new law" all weapons listed on the license must be registered. I've had unregistered weapons on my license for years, and although I have been asked if I wanted to register them when adding them to the license, I politely declined, and it wasn't a problem. I've searched the CA DOJ website and every other resource I could think of and can't find this "new law" he is referring to. It certainly wasn't required at the time of my last renewal in Oct. 2018. I'll call later today and ask the Sheriff's office, but was wondering if anyone else has run into this. Maybe he's just trying to say it's a new Kern County requirement?

There isn't technically registration in CA, do they mean in the DOJ database? I'm in Kern and was told for years that a gun had to be in the database to be on a CCW permit. You can put guns you legally aquired before the FFL private party transfer requirement started (Jan 91) in the database on the report of ownership form you can get off the DOJ website if you want them on your CCW permit.

Just spoke with them. There is still no CA requirement to register a handgun you already own unless "importing" it. It's just something the Sheriff's office is doing now because as they say they are "being pressured by the DOJ." Would be nice if they posted this change in policy somewhere on their website. I really can't wait to move out of this state.
