Hi guys i had a question about the placer county ccw. So I'm in the process of applying for mine, and I've been getting mixed answers on if i'm allowed to modify my handgun in anyway. Am I allowed to attach a red dot on my pistol? or change the trigger? I get yes and no from a bunch of different people. Any input would help. Thanks!

Why ask ‘a bunch of different people’? Go to the source.
Peruse the regulations which pertain to the weapons licensed for Placer County Concealed Carry Weapons license holders.
If your gun can accept a red dot with no modification to the slide, then it is allowed. No modifications to triggers. If you want a trick gun to carry in Placer, it better come tricked out from the factory. That’s why I carry a NighthawkThe weapon shall be the product of a recognized manufacturer free from mechanical and other flaws, within tolerances determined by manufacturer’s specifications, and in good working order.

We allow modification to enhance sighting such as laser sights and or night sights. This includes modifications to grips. We do not allow modifications to the weapons that would alter it from the manufacturer’s original setting

I have tried contacting them a number of times with these types of questions and the standard response is, "contact an attorney". (Probably good advice). That being said, their website states:
"We allow modification to enhance sighting such as laser sights and or night sights. This includes modifications to grips. We do not allow modifications to the weapons that would alter it from the manufacturer’s original setting."
Red dots enhance sighting, so in my opinion, it is clearly allowable. I think they really do not want anyone messing with the internals, changing or lightening the trigger, and removing safety mechanisms.Last edited by 26.2madness; 02-16-2020, 4:36 PM.Comment

You’re ok with any kind of optic upgrade as stated on their website, even if you need the slide milled. What’s not allowed would be any internal work such as triggers, barrels, etc. Dont do anything to compromise the stock safety features and you’ll be g2g.Comment
