CCW on BART

Can I CCW on BART? I'm riding from Antioch to SF. I wasn't sure if they have metal detectors, or if I would get hung up, or questioned about it. I've seen some other threads about this, but I want to be sure, because the Antioch station just opened this year.

No, they do not have metal detectors. If you can legally carry a firearm, you are good to go. Just remember that concealed means exactly that and you shouldn't have any issues.

And remember to check the seat before you sit down. The number of needles that have been shoved between the seat cushion's is staggering according to a friend who works in the Concord yard.

I carry lawfully on BART every day from Oakland to downtown and back. The only concern I've ever had is when the car is really crowded and I have to stand; always try to position myself so I don't get made by casual contact.

Other than that, it's General Rule #1: don't be stupid.

And you'll be golden.

BART has signs in the trains that say something like "No unlawful weappns" so as long as it's legal have at it.

I read a report from a group that took samples of Toxic material from BART seats. The amount of Bacteria (other crap) was Astounding.

Surprised we all don't have dinosaurs flying out our butts. Just sayin.

Is BART (stations, trains) considered city or county property? The applicable code is here, although there may be other code sections that apply. Notably the definition of property includes property owned or leased by the city/county. Where does this leave a licensed CCW who has to be in and move around San Francisco for a few days?

And here we are again. So as I type this in downtown SF after having taken BART from Oakland as I do pretty much every weekday with my G19 on my hip, I have to say that I've never seen any sort of official statement regarding weapons on BART other than on their 'Customer Code of Conduct' page. And that single statement is pretty basic:

A person is prohibited from committing the following acts on a BART vehicle, BART facility, or
BART properry unless otherwise specified in this Section:
Carry or possess any weapon in violation of the law.

The relevant part being '...in violation of the law.' So. If you have a lawful and current LTC/CCW you're good to go.

Your link goes nowhere. BART is not part of SF or any other city or county government. BART is it's own entity. My experience on BART is the same as other's, not a problem. Haven't had a single issue anywhere in SF either.

Appreciate the reply. SF is not shy about creating new laws and rules, trying to trip up us law-abiding CCW permit holders. I think it's prudent to revisit the question. I would note that if BART is "City Property" (as defined), then CCW would indeed be in violation of the law (continued below...)

Thank you for the info on BART - I wasn't sure how to determine if it was a subsidiary or agency of the county or if that police code Sec 617 would somehow apply regardless.

BART stations are controlled and operated by the Bay Area Rapid Transit District, not the city or the county. They even have their own police force.
