    Dumb question

Aside from the pistol and perhaps extra mag or speedloader...do you "stock" anything in your vehicle for a SHTF situation? Say for example there's an active shooter in the building or outdoor event, do you carry anything in your car (like a BP vest, extra magazines, flashlight, knife, anything) should the unlikely actually occur? In light of recent events it doesn't seem like such an over-the-top/overkill idea anymore. Then again, if you're stopped and questioned for any reason...will LEO look at you like a peer or a big (possibly loony) threat? I only ask because my wife thought she might wanna get me a vest as a gift. She knows if I heard gunfire coming from the nearby elementary school I would run to intervene. I told ya it was a dumb question.

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

Running into a shooting at an elementary school shooting dawning civies, a bullet proof vest, and brandishing a firearm seems like a good way to get shot by responding police.

Not saying that I would advocate standing by and doing nothing, but how to respond to such a scenario defiantly warrants some thought.

I think its appropriate to stock your vehicle with extra supplies - food, water, shelter and anything you would want to defend yourself for 3 days time.

I carry to get out of trouble, not into trouble.
There are no "dumb questions", just dumb mistakes.
That said, particularly when travelling I may or may not have items in the vehicle to assist in getting home. I travel for a living.

If you have a gun in a gun free zone, you've just broken the law.

If you're wearing armor while breaking a gun law or laws, I'd really make sure that's worth the gamble to you.

I doubt any gun insurance companies would cover any court costs, especially if you contribute to the harm of a child (regardless of your intent).

I'm curious to how you would identify the shooter if you don't see a gun, and what extensive weapons and tactics training you have. If another commando civilian also runs to the area wearing armor and is armed, and you see him 40 yards away, surrounded by panicked kids, what choice will you make in the moment?

This. I always have emergency blankets, food, water, hand and feet warmers, and a first aid kit.

I have survival supplies extra mags and ammo. Oh and a PC-4 Carbine.

But those are to get me and mine to safety, not to be a hero. I'm not qualified to be a hero.

I have a 4 person 72 hour emergency backpack that I put together and sits in the back of each of my cars always.

Not exactly. You can have a gun in a locked container in a gun free school zone. And you can have a gun secured in a locked container in a vehicle in a school parking lot. And you can conceal carry with a permit in a gun free school zone, although not on school grounds.

And there are exemptions to many firearms laws for exigent circumstances. Even a felon in CA can legally use a gun in defense of life.

Anyhow, laws be damned - you can bet that if my kid is on campus and there is a shooter somewhere between me and her and no one else is around to help, hell yes I am going in.

I always have a 12ga pump in the trunk, and a shoulder bag full of slugs and buckshot.

Are you on a suicide mission? Are you asking the Net if you can be stupid?

Had a LEO friend who did active shooter drills. Pretty much every time LEO’s ended up shooting each other. That was just drills, in real life the pressure will be much higher. Food for thought.

Just the other day cops shot a guy holding a gun in his own house. What do you think the odds are that cops will shoot you in an active shooter situation at a school if they see you running around armed?
