    Concealed Carry question

Heya everyone - I wasn't even sure how to search for this answer, so no, I didn't search - sorry.

Ok, say I am conceal carrying, out and about my daily life. Say I move in such a way that someone sees my gun. Is that just a potentially awkward situation, or is that a legal problem? How does "printing" relate to this same question?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I want to make sure I obey all the laws and such when I start carrying, so I am trying to gather all the info I can.

    Thanks in advance

    Take care,
    Rob

No, not yet. I should have mine soon - so I am trying to get info on situations that may come up WHEN I start carrying.

      Thanks,

They'll go over this in your class. Accidental exposure of the firearm vs brandishing and such. Exposing the firearm is irresponsible and may cause others to report you, which is not good. Brandishing a weapon is a crime.

Took my ccw class today. We discussed this. Printing is legal.

In fact their are occasions where I print intentionally. Or perhaps it's better described as drawing attention to my print.

Specifically at public venues where CCW isn't prohibited but Off Duty LEO's are working the gate.

Seeing my print gives them an option to either make it an issue or not. On many occasions they will see my print, then their eyes will meet mine, make an assessment and waive me on thru. Occasionally they will quietly inform me that CCW's need to be locked in car.

Not once so far have they drawn public attention to the situation or gone tactical.

Bear in mind I fit a specific profile which they instantly recognize. Clean cut, older middle aged, CCW holder, confidant and not nervous.

I was called out for the first time yesterday... in the supply house one of the counter guys asked me "are you carrying?" He just said he noticed something in my waistband. I gave him a less that definitive answer and didn't sweat it too much because I know he's 2A friendly. I've asked other people that I know are CCW holders and they told me they can't see my print, but that guy spotted it.

I have to use a tuckable holster OP, I just move around too much at work to wear an untucked shirt because it would be too easy to expose it but I feel the tucked shirt prints more and you kind of need to do a mirror check after using the head etc. to make sure you didn't tuck in too tight. Just something to think about if you're in a service/construction kind of job. Like the others said, accidental exposure is not illegal, but you definitely want to avoid it.

It could be a big problem if someone sees it. It all depends on how stupid the person is that sees it. Remember the guy in a Costco where a customer saw his gun, Reported to police that there was a man in the store with a gun, Cops came all ready for combat thinking there is a guy waving a gun around. The employee points the guy out to the cops and next thing you know the guy is dead on the ground.

                        The Vegas incident?

He was carrying IWB and his shirt lifted revealing it while he was bent over.
He was "test fitting" water bottles into a backpack.
He was told that he couldn't carry, he responded that he could (and apparently had a Texas permit?)
Manager relayed employee description that he was behaving erratically.
The manager called LV Metro, they staged outside and he received conflicting commands "Hands up" and "Drop the gun" (which was still holstered)

I don't recall a Costco incident with a BB rifle.

The very few times I was asked I just said it is my cell phone and that ended it.

                              Adding to what Cokebottle said...

                              From LVMPD...
... He had a NV CFP issued by LVMPD.

                              From the 911 calls...
... The Costco employees said he appeared to be on drugs, was aggresive, was being violent, was destroying property, and was refusing to leave property.

From the third party Gov investigation inquest...
... Due to the 911 calls, the responding LVMPD officers were coming in "hot".
... Confirmation that the multiple LVMPD officers issued conflicting commands. Recommendations for review of policy (only one LEO issues commands).
... Costco surveillance footage of the incident could not be produced due to the ineptitude of Costco management (it was lost or damaged or no recordings for that day depending on which employee being questioned).
... LVMPD officers were cleared and the shooting was determined to be justified.
