CCW at General Aviation Side of KSNA

I've been looking around and can't find the answer. Obviously the secure side of the airport is a no-no, but I fly planes regularly from the general aviation side of the airport. Is that a prohibited area? If you know please include a reference.

    Thanks.

Are there any signs posted? If not then you should be legal to carry as long as you have a CCW. I don't have a CA CCW (being in San Diego) but I do have firearms at my place of business at KSEE.

        UPDATE:

I finally got ahold of a security supervisor at SNA, and he informed me that there is no problem carrying on the GA side with a CCW. Glad to have that answered.

I reached out to the CCW office and got this reply. Still nothing definitive. Also, the OC policy states you cannot carry at an airport 'where prohibited by law' in the terms of the permit. But is it prohibited by law???? I'll reach out to TSA:

        Good Morning,

Thank you for your inquiry. While our policies state that you cannot carry in an airport, TSA/ airport security policies supersede ours. You would be permitted to carry your firearm in route to the airport but you would have to confirm with TSA or any supervisor if you could continue to carry while on their premises. Please contact John Wayne Airport TSA to get a definitive answer.

        Thank you,

When I flew out of KWDI and my flight took me over the mountains, I carried a pistol in my flight bag. I had an informal conversation with a high-rank LEO in the area and he said it would never be an issue.

Isn't outside the secure areas good? Yu don't pass through a TSA checkpoint do you? From my understanding, one of the benefits of charter flights is no TSA.

I have zero idea if this will be helpful, but I've traveled to Iraq on a chartered United flight. Still had flight attendants and some TSA rules. For some reason they had a fit about having knives on board. First Sgt. made it clear we were not to be caught with them. Funny thing though. M16A2, M9, SAW's.... not an issue. They even fit in the overhead bin!

It's my understanding that even charter flights have to abide by TSA regs, they just don't do the cattle call check.

My cousin sent me a pic of him on a commercial airliner...with his M9 in hand and s S eating grin on his face. But that was pre 9/11 on the way to Kosovo.

It’s legal as long as you’re outside of the secure area of the airport and you are legally permitted for ccw.

Orange County prohibits weapons anywhere on the airport, except if broken down and prepped for travel, or with the permission of the Airport Director...

BOOM, there it is right there. There’s always a county or city code that will creep up and get ya!
