Reloading ammo

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but was thinking of reloading my own HP ammo. I've been reading about this topic online but there is nothing there but just people talking out of their *****. So where can I buy HP projectiles?

PS. I'm talking about reloading my own ammo for CCW. New regulations in 2018 got me thinking about this.

Ignoring the "don't reload your own defensive ammo" crowd for a moment...

You can easily find hollowpoint bullets (components) available online. They tend to cost more than round nose or flat point bullets, for whatever reason, but you can usually buy them in packs of 100, 250, 500, and 1000. Suggestion is to start with a pack of 100 or 250 to work up your load and feed reliability, then buy more once you're confident you have a good recipe going for your needs.

I would go to OC reload in Anaheim. You can check out the homeless in the river on the way....

He has everything you will need or want to enjoy the hobby of reloading + a vast amount of knowledge and the patience to teach. I also would buy a couple different weights of projectiles (boolits) and some square 100 round ammo boxs to store assembled ammo in an organized way, and work up the best load for your needs.

Work up a factory mimic load that you like to use in your EDC, and use it to practice with. Carry factory when not at the range. Cheap practice, factory reliability when it counts. And, your covered for after the fact legal stuff.

I'm using good ammo too. I'm thinking about the ammo for the new regulation in 2018. I don't want to start hoarding ammo. Atleast to me, I make my own quality ammo. I just can't find anything that says that I can't use my reloads for my carry pistol.

And you won't - no CA law prohibits.

The argument goes that anything in the least out of the ordinary might be used to portray a reloader, who has a self-defense shooting event, as somehow aberrant.

What scares me isn't the OP asking about using his own handloads for SD. Instead, it is the fact that he is having to ask where he can find HPs for reloading. That tells me that he is not a seasoned handloader and should think about taking some reloading classes and getting some hands on reloading experience prior to considering to make loads that his life might depend on.

I've had top shelf, factory ammo rupter cases. I would rather trust my own quality control than some random person's QC on an assembly line.

I think you can, there's no law against it as far as I know. The old "rule" is that it's not a good idea. I was poking a little fun at the rule in my first post, but I think Turby took it serious.

If a self defense case ever came up, I don't want my lawyer to have to explain how I had the time, equipment, and expertise to make my own ammo with the intention of depriving some hood rat of their bright future. I bought self defense ammo for self defense, I didn't manufacture a killing tool. That 62 year old liberal retired school teacher, nor the 39 year old DMV employee on the jury understand reloading, not one bit. To them you look like a psycho who makes their own ammo that splits off in seven deadly pieces, who does that? Not me, I bought my ammo at the gun store, dude said it was for self defense.

When teaching CCW classes, one thing I try to stress is that many aspects of concealed carry are more about personal level of comfort than anything else. Ammunition choice is at the top of the list when it comes to that.

Lol. I've been reloading for a few years now. The question marks at the end of my OP was a wink that didn't come out. I'll try it again...

Well, you can buy them just about anywhere that sells reloading components or you can make your own buy either casting, swaging or machining. I only have experience in casting HPs but, the other ways work well too.
