    SD AMMO FOR SHIELD

    Hey guys,

Just picked up a new 9mm shield in anticipation of my CCW process in June.

I know there are tons of threads on the best self defense load for shields. So i was able to get my hands on a couple brands:

    Federal HST 147 grain +p
    Gold Speer Dot 124 grain
    Hornady Critical Defense 115 grain

From what I've seen around the forums that the HST 147 grain is popular as standard pressure and not +P. Any opinions or personal feedbacks from using these in your shield?

I plan on shooting all three to see which is right for me but any advice is appreciated.

I used to use Winchester RA9T ammo in my Shield. Now, I use Federal 147 grain HST Tactical ammo. I don't think there is much difference. I use it because it was given to me free, and it works in my Shield well without any issues.

I really like the Federal HST's and prefer the 124g. But I wouldn't hesitate to carry the 147g...both regular pressure.

Also check out ammoquest video on Winchester defend 147 with pdx bullets, he actually emptied his mag of hst and changed to them. And the train ammo fmj is loaded the same so you can practice with same load for cheaper.

Only problem I have is finding it in stock, I got lucky and found at Walmart last week, bought all they had.

I use Critical Defense in mine. It's reliable, all of my pistols like it so I use it in all of my 9mm's. I'm more concerned with shot placement than whatever slight edge the other brands of ammo offer.

Winchester RA9T is phenominal ammo. The 127gr +p+ is great if you can find it. It's a little stout for 9mm, but has great numbers and a great track history in the OISs where they've been used and most importantly is been reliable and very accurate out of my shield.

I use Gold Dot standard pressure at 124 grains in my Shield.

                    No hiccups with this ammo.

I use 147gr +p HST in my Shield because it was available. I also have 124gr standard pressure. I wouldn't get too hung up on the +p and just roll with it!

My manual reads DO NOT USE +P ammo. I however, dig 124 and 147gn Federal.

I switched from Hornady Critical Defense to Critical Duty. With all of the wack jobs using cars a weapons I want something that will go thru car glass!

Federal HST 124 grain. It had excellent results in the Lucky Gunner Ballisitcs tests. And it's been running great through my Shield.

Lucky Gunner tests more than 110 different 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 S&W and 380 ACP handgun self-defense ammunition loads in ballistic gel with analysis and video.
