    Quick Question About CCW Process

    Hello,

I live in LA County (yes, I know the odds of actually getting one but I feel the need to at least try applying).

I am looking to applying for a CCW, and I went to my local PD and picked up and application. I have filled it out, but I have a question.

Based on what I am reading, I have to take the training course BEFORE I submit the app or after? Doesn't make sense to me to spend the time and money on a CCW course before applying, then right away being denied.

Can someone lay down the steps to applying for me? The sticky at the top contains a link, but it's broken, and searching the forum yielded no results that I can find.

    Thanks in advance fellow calgunners!

    Quick Question About CCW Process

Ca penal code 26165 (d) says the applicant shall not be required to pay for any training courses prior to the determination of good cause being made pursuant to section 26202.

I am not located in LA county but my county does not require any payment until you get a soft approval before doing a background check. Once you get the soft approval you move to live scan and then start background. Once you're cleared for background you get a letter to proceed to training.

Don't know how it works in LA. Hope some of this helps.

Thank you w_wood, that's what common sense was telling me, but unfortuantely as we all know, when it comes to legal rules and regulations, common sense seem to go out the window.

Yes especially with our politicians in this state.

          Quick Question About CCW Process

Each IA has their own steps to take, so we can't really give you specific information. As mentioned, they can't compel you to take the training before you apply (well, they're not supposed to) but most IA's tend to play by their own rules.

I'm not sure where you read that information, but LA County does abide by the law. The only thing you need to pay before they reject you is the $10 fee to them.

Here is the LA County's application:
