    CCW vs Active Shooter

I don't think ABC News was expecting the outcome they got.
It is great they were willing to run the simulation.

I'd be shocked if the network showed the report. Local affiliate in Texas not so much.

Reinforces the idea of playing what if scenario's in your head. In other words try to have a plan, before you need it.

Great report. And they fared very well against a trained SWAT team member and tactical trainer with 22 years experience. I would bet most "bad guys" don't have that level of experience with firearms and stressful scenarios.

Shows how effective a "good guy" with a gun can be!

        Great share, grantar2!

          Very interesting.

Seems CCW works as advertised when one isn't a comedian trying to make a political point...

I thought it was done well.

At the very least we here on CG get some insight on how four CCW's reacted to the scenarios given. It's really difficult to create a 'real life' experience but at least we, who watched, and all those participating hopefully gain some insight that will help of us should we be confronted with something like this.

I was around a weapons fired incident while in the service. Everything happens so fast sometimes, and if you were not already focused mentally on it in the first place, by the time your brain shifts gears... it's over. Did that one experience help me to be better prepared? I really don't know for sure. I like to think so... and that it also made me more aware of what is going on around me at all times. However, it was over thirty years ago now.

I think shooting and training on a regular bases is important. So does mentally thinking defensively and awareness of surroundings as I go through my daily life tasks.

The simulations were good examples and make us all think about the "what-if's". In many respects training is key but sometimes shear luck can determine the outcome. Open carry is not a good option for the carrier. Surprise very well is King in the gun battle world. We can't all be excellent shooters but keeping a calm head and acting decisively is paramount.

Inasmuch as they CCW's wouldn't be shooting at anyone but the intruder, I would have to think the results would be even better.

The interesting part is the guy who claimed it wasn't real in the first run so he didn't shoot for the head, but truth is he wasn't used to shooting a failure drill.

Also I have had this argument with instructors, but in IDPA we shoot a failure drill. Two the body, one to the head. We don't shoot pelvis. The argument is the head shot is immediate stop. Unfortunately the head moves a lot and is often hard to hit. The pelvis has a lot of area to miss, but if you get it right it can be stopper as well. The advantage of the pelvis shot besides that fact that body armor doesn't cover it, is that it doesn't move much. The legs and hips are usually set well the trunk rotates and head bobs. Even in motion the bad guy shooter will likely maintain a steady pelvis.

As we practice we need to consider that. If with my M&P I have to take two the body (reflex) move one to the head miss, and have to go to the head or pelvis, I am down 5 rounds min. If there is a second shooter, better be good with my reloads under pressure.

Will be completely ignored by the national main stream media.

Because there was, at least partly, an outcome of favor of "good guy with gun kills bad guy with gun".

                          Absolutely correct.
When I am on duty (in uniform) , I am a target and everyone knows that I am armed.

Off duty , on a bike ride or at a coffee shop , only I know that I have a Glock 19 or 26 and a spare magazine.

Attackers don't know who is armed and who is not.

If I am off duty at a busy coffee shop or a restaurant , they don't know that it is me who is armed, they don't know what I am armed with and have no idea about my skill level with that weapon.

Great scenarios and I jumped on to share it. Glad to see that I wasn't the first to see these videos.

My only complaint is the same complaint I had with the other news hit piece that came out a few years ago. Don't mark the ccw carrier. When they're the only ones with a helmet, or always in the same place, then the aggressor gets to choose how to deal with that. In these scenarios it's obvious the aggressor is trying to not act like he knows who the ccw is. I would prefer a more random location for the ccw holder and have them blend in visually with the other "actors". That way there's no way to argue that bias effected decision making.

I think the 2 shooters with the least experience acted how I expected them to. The lady also acted how I imagined, more timid, but because of that she was more tactical in her decisions. The older shooter, unfortunately also behaved as expected, he was complacent because of his "level of training" and reacted poorly instead of relying on training. Overall I think that he is the person that made us look the worst in the videos.
