    CCW before moving

My apologies if this has been asked before or is in the wrong forum.

I've done a little (very little actually) research about obtaining a CCW and have a few questions for you.

I've heard that some counties are more willing to issue and some do not issue at all but if you at least have a CCW, you're ok. Is this true? I live in San Bernardino which I understand is pretty good at issuing but unfortunately might be moving to Los Angeles which I understand just does not issue at all. Could I get my CCW here and relocate to LA with no problems?

    Thanks!

My previous statement was incorrect per the below:

per the Placer County Sheriff Dept website:
You must report any change of residence to PCSO in writing within 10 days. If your license is in good standing, your permit will remain valid for the remainder of its term. After your current permit expires you must reapply with the new county of residence. The only exception would be if your PCSO permit was based solely on your place of residence. In that case your license would expire 90 days after you moved.

San Berdo permit would only be good as long as you lived in that county...

I am not aware of any grace period - there may be one, but not that I know of.
All IA's require notification of change of address, even within the county, in a very short time period.

Do not play around with this.

If you apply and are approved, notify them within the required time period if you move to LA.

If you are approved in SB, it might actually help with your approval in LA if you apply.

Sadly LA is generally viewed as a no issue county, issuing only to political cronies and movie stars ...

The PCSO statement is a bit misleading.

IF one moves within Placer County (or, whatever county issued your license) then indeed your permit should be valid for its full term.

IF, however, you change counties, then by Penal Code your license expires in 90 days, and you must re-apply in your new county of residence.

        This bit -

is almost always true - one applies in a county, and may be issued a license, because one actually lives there. Agencies (with the exception noted below) may issue only to residents within their jurisdictions.

The exception is the 90-day 'business only' license, which almost no one has.

So, specifically to the OP, if you get your license in San Bernardino, and then move to Los Angeles, your SB license expires in 90 days from the date you move.

          1. It takes about 5-8 months to get a carry permit from the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department.

          2. Per CA laws, within 10 days of moving you need to notify your issuing agency of the move and your new address. [PC 26210(b)]

          3. Per CA laws, if you move to another county, your permit expires 90 days after moving to the new county. [PC 26210(d)]

The best advice I can give is don't move to LA. I would never. I'd rather live at the border of San Bernardino county and commute. Taxes are lower, freedom is higher.
