non-lethals?

Im looking for a *non-lethal* form of *self defense* to protect myself. This is supplemental to ccw.

*Verbal judo (your ability to de-escalate a situation by talking)


Less-lethal options would be:

*Pepper spray, 2.5oz or less with CA required warning labels.

I carry a concealed handgun everywhere I'm legally allowed, but for those instances where I'm not allowed, I carry a TASER C2.

fist = can be considered lethal (In the USA, more people are beaten to death with hands/feet than are shot with a rifle)

big stick = deadly weapon

First and least expensive is Pepper Spray. In order I recommend Sabre (preferably 3-in-1), Mace, and Fox. They are cheap, very effective, non-lethal. Pepper Spray is inexpensive enough you can buy one for practice. Come in multiple types of packaging, easy to carry.

Moving up to less lethal is the Taser. Effective, but expensive. Equally as difficult to carry as a gun.

So I also was looking for a less lethal to carry at school because even with CCW you cannot carry on campus ... that whole SB 707 deal... Sooo I researched the most potent pepper spray available and basically here is what I found http://www.udap.com/mm5/category/personal-pepper-spray

Look for one that has an OC percentage over 15%, an SHU rating of over 2 million, and that has a major capsaicinoid (MC) over 2% and CRC rating over 1%. The link I provided has sprays with higher levels than most, but look into the one you want carefully.

Bottom line, professionals Police and the U.S. military carry the same Sabre, Mace and Fox you can buy. Sabre offers a 3-in-1 combination of pepper spray, CS tear gas and UV dye marker. Each can is tested and the manufacture recommends you take test shots with the unit you buy, wont hurt the unit, but you will have confidence it will work.

Nice part about Pepper Spray is it is inexpensive, and comes packaged as anything from a writing pen to lipstick if stealth is needed.

Wasp Spray shoots pretty far.

During the CCW class I asked about (non lethal) rubber bullets; I don't want to kill anyone.

They said: "Don't do it". Figure that out.

Under CA laws...

Wasp spray is classified as an economic poison/pesticide.

Using it against a human being is considered a variation of assault with a deadly weapon. [PC 244]

Which makes it illegal to use, unless it is in response to deadly force (gun, knife, club, etc) being used against you or another.

22900. Any person, firm, or corporation who within this state knowingly sells or offers for sale, possesses, or transports any tear gas or tear gas weapon,

except as permitted under the provisions of this division,

is guilty of a public offense and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for not exceeding one year or by a fine not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.

You ordinarily do not get a year in county for jaywalking.

You can, however, carry more than one of those 2.5 oz cans ...
