    Question about CCW Timeline? (OC)

From those of you recently completing the CCW Process in Orange County........

What am I looking at in terms of "Time" from when I submitted my Training Certificate (my LIVE SCAN was completed 3+ weeks Prior) and thus completing the process...... To when I receive the email to pick up my card?

    Thanks!

Most of my friends got theirs 1-2 weeks after submitting their training certificate, but that was like 5 months ago....

Rumor has it the livescans are taking from 9-12 weeks to complete. There are 3 checks the DOJ, FBI, and firearms clearance. The firearms clearance is what takes the 9-12 weeks. It is mailed back to OCSD and when they recieve it they will schedule your pick up date. The training certificate is the easy part, the waiting for the livescan will wear on you.

From what I heard, DOJ & FBI are instant, my conditional approval letter date stamp was Jan 20, but I received it 2/20. I did my livescan beginning of Jan, so either they just tell you it takes up to 12 weeks or they send out conditional approval letter with the same date to everyone , either way if you don't receive an email from them after 12 weeks something is up.

To break down my time line:

        Interview: 12/23/14
Residency check: Forgot the date, but it was within 7 days
        Livescan: 1/1/2015
        Conditional Approval Letter: 2/20

Welps all I have to do now is my training which is scheduled for tomorrow.... Best of luck to you!

          MY PROCESS ALMOST A YEAR

I applied for my first interview on or around the first week in January 2016.

Interview in 2nd week of May.

          Live scanned the next day.

Live scan did not return until September.

          Took class October/November.

Didn't send in cert because I wanted to add a new gun that I purchased.

I sent in my certs a few days ago and hope to hear from them soon.

It has been a long process. I think the DOJ was over 120 days.

            Completed training in Feb 2016.
            Requested interview in March 2016
Interview date August 2016 (4 days before training expired)
            Livescan performed on interview date
According to OCSD, still waiting on livescan results from DOJ 16 weeks and counting!

Currently there are more than 9,300 CCW holders in Orange County and in excess of 2,500 CCW applicants awaiting decision. As pointed out by others in this discussion, the CCW Unit is taking too long in processing new applications.
I just learned from the NRA Master Training Counselor, TJ Johnston, that the Orange County Board of Supervisors previously appropriated 1.6 million dollars to the OCSD to fund the processing of the initial surge of applicants who responded to the initial Peruta decision.
Looks like we need the Board’s help again. We need to mount a lobbying campaign for the Board to fund the OCSD to expedite not only initial applications but also renewal requests. Write or call. Links to your OC Board of Supervisors is at http://ocgov.com/gov/bos

I'm at almost 6 months for renewal. I got final approval back in November and was told the issuing clerk would be contacting me 6 weeks ago. Nothing yet.

It's time to write or call the OC Board of Supervisors. What else can we do but sit on our guns instead of bearing them?

                        Hi heominhon and everyone else,

                        I am in Orange County.
I just applied for new application and got an interview date for mid August 2017.

Looks like some people are getting their Live Scan done well before their interview date?

Has there been cases of doing this causing problems for those in Orange County?

I would like to get this done first while I wait for my initial interview date.

I am willing to take the chances of paying for the cost of the Live Scan now before I am given to OK to proceed after the initial interview? But want to make sure would be a valid Live Scan result for CCW application in Orange County.

                        thank you

I don't know the answer to your question. I would email the OCSD CCW Unit with this important question. They are responsive to emails.

If it can be done, I would recommend doing so. I am 5 1/2 months waiting for the DOJ's Livescan results. I have submitted my CCW application, sat for the interview, completed training, and residence verified. It appears that it is only the Livescan results that are holding up the decision on my application.

It would be nice if you could take advantage of the downtime between interview request and interview date. I requested an interview date on 3/30/2016 and received a 8/3/2016 appointment.

No problem at all. The only thing you might be out is the cost if you don't have good cause.

The livescan is what will hold you up. It's taking about 4-5 months right now.
