LASD hasn't processed my renewal yet and my CCW expired last week

Kind of at a loss as to what to do. I applied for my (2nd) renewal in December '24. My renewal was submitted in a timely manner and I completed my training after being given the go ahead and submitted that a month ago. My current CCW expired last week and calls and emails to their CCW department are just met with "we'll let you know when we've completed your approval". On the phone a deputy relayed they are understaffed and overwhelmed.

In all my years I've never had a drivers license, professional license, etc be allowed to expire by the issuing authority. Hell I've got a Federal 03 FFL and the ATF just issued me a renewed license this week in less time than the LASD had to process my CCW renewal.

As the LASD won't let you apply for a renewal earlier than three months before its expiration it seems like they are setting CCW holders up for failure.

Is anyone else experiencing this and any any thoughts what I can do. Super frustrating to LOSE my hard fought 2A rights because of understaffing...

I was at my training yesterday and the instructor said he has not heard of anyone getting their renewals this year, probably an exaggeration. He said the person that had been in charge of the program had been hurt and reassigned and the new person had no clue of what was going on. Mentioned that he had not made any contact with the CCW instructors since he took over. I started my renewal at the 90 day mark and I'm expecting to see it expire.

I sent my renewal online 60 days prior to expiration. Answered all the questions and did everything as told in between last payment. My license expired last week. Got notice to schedule pick up. Earliest available is a month from now. I was already anticipating the delay. When I called for a question last week, I could hear people on the background talking on the phone. Hopefully the ccw unit is better staffed. Good luck everyone🙏

Mine lapsed for 6 weeks despite doing everything asap. When I picked up the deputy said I could email them at the email on the CCW page. They need to expand the renewal period from 90 days prior to 180 days prior. Mine took 135 days for approval.

Im 40 days to expiration and I havent heard from LASD either.

I saw this and guessing its normal. My permit will likely expire before its renewed. Sucks

I was submitted at the 90 day mark, posted my training docs as soon as it was requested, emailed them the week before noting pending expiration, now I’ve been expired two days and hoping against hope that I’m not delayed for too long. This is my second renewal. The first time it lapsed for two days before pick up.

Unfortunately you're at the mercy of the process. I did my 2nd renewal back in May and had a one week gap between my expiration and picking up my new permit.

Mine expired a few days ago. With others experiences on the big LA county thread, im expecting to go 1-2 months without a permit. Submitted at 90 days, submitted training within 1 week of request. Emailed the ccw unit last week but got no reply.
